If you think you know florals, Aesop’s latest fragrance, Aurner Eau de Parfum, is here to challenge everything you thought you understood about this perfume genre.

It is probably not surprising that florals often get pigeonholed as delicate, romantic and traditionally feminine but Aurner flips the script in surprisingly delightful ways. Just think of it as the rebellious cousin of sweet peonies and blushing roses that deviates from the obvious and pushes the boundaries of what a floral fragrance can be.

Aurner Eau de Parfum is available in a 50ml bottle, priced at $255.

What does Aurner Eau de Parfum smell like?

At the heart of the scent is the magnolia leaf, a bold move that shifts focus away from the conventional softness of petals and instead highlights the crisp, herbaceous energy of flowers in a way that feels almost architecturally structured.

It is green, aromatic and subtly crisp, resulting in an alluring scent that moves between strength and tenderness, best described as “poetic tension”.

At the heart of this shift in perspective is Magnolia leaf – rather than the flower petal. Aurner Eau de Parfum presents a fresh interpretation of the bloom.

Who is behind Aurner Eau de Parfum?

The nose behind this defiant bloom is none other than Aesop’s long-term collaborator, Celine Barel. She is also the creator of fan favourite Tacit Eau de Parfum, a thoroughly modern take on a cologne with its crisp yuzu top notes blended with the subtle vegetation of the Mediterranean coast such as vetiver heart and basil. Aurner builds on this legacy, with a fresh twist that redefines a familiar category of perfumes.

“Aurner has been envisioned as a nonconformist, floral fragrance embodying tensions like the fragility of the flowers versus the strength of the woods; transparency of the bloom versus the solidity of the woods; fresh versus warm; vegetal versus mineral; feminine versus masculine; simple versus complex,” Barel explains.

Aurner takes its name from an Old Norse verb meaning "to be adorned" or "to be embellished with flowers."

In fact, Aesop has long been a quiet disruptor in the fragrance world. More than a brand for covetable skin and body care, it has quietly built a reputation for crafting distinctive, unconventional unisex fragrances that defy expectations and are undeniably cool.

Those who have been drawn to the smoky, earthy greens reminiscent of ancient Japanese hinoki forests in Hwyl Eau de Parfum or the spicy sensuality of Gloam Eau de Parfum will discover another kindred addition to their fragrance wardrobe in Aurner. It offers the brand’s signature complexity and multifaceted depth and best of all – in our humble opinions – refuses to fit neatly into scent categories.

What are the ingredients in Aurner Eau de Parfum?

A study in contrasts, it opens with a burst of unexpected brightness, where citrus notes shine through with the sharpness of green cardamom and the peppery bite of pink pepper. Instead of delicate blossoms, the foundation of the fragrance leans into the crisp herbaceousness of magnolia leaf – fresh yet subtly aromatic, more akin to the sculptural elegance of a botanical still life than a romantic bouquet. Roman chamomile adds an unexpected, tea-like depth, bridging the floral, spicy, and aromatic facets. As the scent deepens, a trio of woods – sandalwood, cypriol heart, and cedar heart – grounds the composition, lending warmth rather than a lingering sweetness.

Fittingly, the name Aurner comes from an Old Norse verb meaning “to be adorned, to be embellished with flowers”, echoing how the fragrance cocoons the wearer in an emboldening blend of aromas. Naturally, it is best worn close to the skin with delicate dabs to the wrists and neck. As it evolves subtly through the day, it offers a quiet yet undeniable presence that lingers like an unspoken thought, discernible only to those who come near.

Much like the scent itself, Aurner extends beyond fragrance into a tactile experience. In celebration of its floral essence, Aesop has collaborated with Thai designer Patcharavipa Bodiratnangkura on a limited-edition ear cuff.
