Beauty Review: We Tried A Microcurrent Facial & This Is What Happened
The CACI Non-Surgical Face Lift at St. Gregory's Spa targets sagging skin by using microcurrents to tone and lift facial muscles.
By ISABEL ONG,
The treatment
The 60-minute-long facial uses micro-currents – tiny electrical impulses at an ultra-low frequency – to tone and lift facial muscles and boost collagen and elastin production in skin. Micro-currents are reportedly able to stimulate facial muscles that have begun to weaken, causing visible signs of ageing like frown lines and sagging skin. After cleansing and toning, the therapist applies a firming gel and uses two handheld wands that transmit micro-currents to pinch and lift muscles on the neck and jawline. She applies the same motions onto the face for the next 20 minutes. Thereafter, two electrodes that also transmit micro-currents are attached to my forehead for 10 minutes to target frown lines. Once removed, the therapist repeats the same lifting and pinching movements, this time at a faster pace, to strengthen facial muscles so they stay lifted. To finish, hydrating and anti-ageing skincare is applied onto the face and neck with feathery-light hand movements, which supposedly help to increase product absorption.
The verdict
It's easy to see why Madonna and Linda Evangelista are fans of this treatment. My complexion looked plumper and skin felt smoother and firmer immediately afterwards. My eye and mouth contours, as well as brows, also appeared slightly lifted. There were some slightly prickly sensations, but overall a completely pain-free experience with no residual redness or irritation. $220, St. Gregory Spa, Pan Pacific Singapore, 7 Raffles Boulevard, tel: 6826-8140
