Isn’t it one of life’s greatest ironies that when it comes to beauty, the most undone looks usually require the most effort. Think: the no-makeup makeup and the perfect I-woke-up-like-this messy bun. With the latter, it's often either too uniform-group-tight, or more deflated than your frenemy’s self confidence. However, the messy bun is timeless, and good thing we’ve found a foolproof three-step routine to nail it down pat.
#1: Make sure your hair is not freshly shampooed
We need some oil and grime in there to get it started. Flip your head upside down and pull your hair into a ponytail, as high or as low as you’d like it. Don’t worry about bumps, or it being perfect.
#2: Twist your hair and spin it around the base of the ponytail
It should twist naturally, but make sure you leave the tail out.
#3: Secure the tail
Use another hair tie and bobby pins if you need. Pull out some tendrils if you’d like too. Add a scarf or hair band for pizzazz. We like ours with casually smudged eyeliner and oversized hoop earrings.
