The Modern Woman's Guide To Beating Stress – Charmaine Seah Tells Us How

Stress is one of the most underestimated causes of dull skin and premature aging. Local tastemaker/branding guru Charmaine Seah tells Female and Cle de Peau Beaute how a modern, creative woman like her kicks back.

Perfect her script

"One of the most unexpected ways that I de-stress is through calligraphy. I picked it up after a class with paper goods company, The Letter J Supply, last year and found it extremely therapeutic."

Walk on the wild side

"Going for long walks relaxes me and I recently discovered one of the joys of living in the North-East of Singapore: Coney Island Park. The nature park is lush and feels un-spoilt. If you're lucky, you might even spot the free-roaming cow that appeared in the park mysteriously and now calls it home."

Indulge in her skincare regime

"It’s my way of having ‘me’ time. I don’t have the luxury of pampering myself regularly with beauty treatments so for day, I go with Cle de Peau Beaute’s lightweight protective fortifying emulsion. It’s fuss-free, very moisturising and gets absorbed easily without leaving a greasy residue, which means my sunblock and makeup can go on easily after.

At night after putting my daughter to bed, I take a long, hot shower then spend about 15 minutes on my face. After cleansing, I use Cle de Peau Beaute’s hydro-softening lotion (it balances skin, protecting it against dryness as well as promotes radiance).

Next two serums and my eye cream before I slather on Cle de Peau Beaute’s intensive fortifying cream (its rich texture aids skin recovery so that skin looks fresh and bright the next day)."

Hear Ryan Gosling's music

"Did you know that the Drive actor has a rock band called Dead Man's Bones? I didn't until recently and have since had its namesake album (that was created in collaboration with the Silverlake Conservatory Children's Choir) on repeat in the car, especially the charmingly catchy track Pa Pa Power."

Vacay in somewhere exotic

"Besides Bali, which I go back to repeatedly, I recently visited Istanbul and can see myself returning often should time and money permit. Everything about the city is magical to me – from the food to its rich history to the people. The fact that it sits on both the continents of Asia and Europe fascinates me even more. For a place to stay, I'd recommend Philippe Starck's irreverent and decently priced Mama Shelter hotel."

Visit the coast

"One of my favourite spots to unwind in is Sentosa, where I love spending weekends with my husband and daughter. We would usually head to Kith at Quayside Isle for brunch before walking over to the marina club 1 Degree 15 to spend the afternoon at its pool. It's never over-crowded so there's room to muck around or swim laps. There's also the idyllic view of all the shiny white boats bobbing up and down along the docks, making it feel like we've gone on a short holiday."

Share a meal – a good one

"I've always found that catching up with people who are important to me helps me relax, especially when it’s done over good food and drinks. My favourite place of the moment for hearty, unpretentious meals and great (read: strong) drinks is Korean-Mexican eatery Vatos Urban Tacos at South Beach Quarter."
