Supermodel Taylor Hill Tells Us How To Get Her Gorgeous Bod And Flawless Skin
We met up with Lancome ambassador and VS Angel Taylor Hill, where she revealed her beauty must-haves, workout routine and why her mother still cuts her hair.
By MOH SHUYING,
What she does in the morning
“I’m not a morning person, I’m happiest in the afternoon. The first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is brush my teeth and splash my face with cold water. It makes me feel awake.”
Beauty Routine
“At night I wash my face with a cleanser, then I put on the Energie de Vie The Overnight Recovery Sleeping Mask. In the morning, I only use Lancome Energie de Vie, it’s my favourite and I feel it works the best for my skin. I put on the day moisturiser, then the toning water. I have the whole range, but it depends on how my skin is feeling. They have so many products within the range.”
Inflight Essentials
“Lancome Genifique Advanced Serum, it’s really easy to carry on because it comes in a really small bottle. And I like that you just need to put a little bit on your face and it makes you feel really fresh because it’s super lightweight and it's for sensitive skin. I also carry around hand sanitizer.”
How she maintains her great body
“I usually don’t stick to any sort of diet or anything specific. I believe in everything in moderation and exercise is the most important.”
Her favourite thing about fashion shows
“Just seeing everything come together and being a part of someone’s creative vision is very cool. Backstage is always madness and chaos, and it’s just crazy seeing all of it happen so quickly and the next thing you know it’s over and you’re like, ‘oh, that’s it?’”
Joining the Lancome family
“It’s been a really huge honour working with the brand. They are an amazing company and the message is amazing towards women and just young people in general. When I was told about the opportunity and had a meeting, I was very excited. I flew to Paris for it and googled everything I could about the brand the night before and watched all of Lisa Eldridge’s makeup tutorials and all of the fragrance campaigns and I just fell in love because it was based off on the essense of what makes a woman beautiful, like confidence and self-respect.”
First experience with Lancome
“I used to see my mum using it, but I didn’t understand skincare or what it was for. I associated it with high end, really expensive and unattainable when I was very young because it was just so beautiful, with the roses and the glass bottles. My mum didn’t let me touch makeup until I was 14 and I used to be like (reaching out her hand) ‘ooh, what’s that?’ and she’ll smack my hand and say no!’ But now I absolutely love it because it’s not unattainable and it’s really for everybody and it’s my favourite brand because of the message.”
Favourite cuisine
“I really love Japanese udon. There’s this place in Paris that I go that I absolutely love but I’m not going to tell you the name because I want it to remain a secret. I love New York pizza, you have to get a New York slice. It’s the best. Sushi, I love it. Spaghetti, anything in Italy basically I’ll eat through really quickly.”
Best place to buy beauty
“Now I don’t really have to shop for beauty products, but I do like to take a stroll through the duty-free in airports. It exciting for me because I’m like ‘oh, there’s my face’ or ‘there I am!’ For me, it’s fun.”
Workout routine
“I like to switch it up a lot, I think it’s really important to not get used to something. It’s really important for your body to constantly be challenged. I will do a lot of weightlifting, with squats and weights, and arm stuff with weights. It’s really good to build up an endurance. And also I do yoga, pilates, crossfit, I’ve done it all. I go to Dogpound in New York, it’s a gym there. I really like it. They have a lot of different kinds of workouts. It’s probably one of my favourite environments because you can kind of go there and tell them what you want on that day. It’s probably one of the coolest places.”
Beauty is…
“On the inside. It’s confidence, always being yourself and going from there.”
Guilty pleasures
“I think for me it’s mostly bad TV. I like The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Lisa Rinna is my favourite. I love Disney movies, I watch cartoons and I’ve watched Finding Dory like four times. People were like, ‘you’re 21, you’re an adult. Why do you watch this?’ And I don’t care, I like cartoons.”
How she grows her social following
“I don’t know, I think for me I’ve always gone with the flow and made it organic to my life. I don’t really pay attention to how to grow it, I just kind of do it. And I think that’s what people like.”
How addicted she is to Instagram
“I’m not. People always say I’m the worst because I’ll go a week without posting something then post like four photos in a row. But I don’t care because that’s just my life. If I don’t want to be on it, I’m not on it. And if I am, then I am.”
Best beauty tip
“The coolest thing I’ve probably learnt is some makeup artists up eyelash curlers with a blow dryer. They test it on their skin to make sure it’s not too hot, and they curl your eyelash with it. And I think that’s cool. I mean, you cool your hair with heat, so if you curl your eyelash with heat it might stay longer.”
Best hair care tip
“My mum’s a hairdresser so I should know this because all she does is harass me about my hair, ‘you need a haircut, Taylor!’. She still cuts my hair. I get a lot of heat styling done to my hair, so for me, the most important thing is conditioning it and making sure I always have a really good conditioner or hair mask. I don’t really go to salons to get it done because my mum will just do it. I probably mask my hair about once a week. I usually do it when I take a bath, just because I get confused by the whole ‘you have to leave it in for five minutes’ so then you get in the shower, then do you like hang in the shower for five minutes? So I’ll draw a bath, jump into the shower, get my hair wet and put the mask on, throw it into a bun, sit in the bath for 15 minutes, go back into the shower and rinse it out.”
Makeup essentials
“Mascara, concealer and lip balm.”
Best skincare tip
“Wash your face, a lot.”
