Though it may resemble a mullet or shag hairstyle, the wolf cut incorporates choppy layers which mimic the wild mane of the hairstyle's namesake animal.

In an interview with Oprah Daily, hairstylist Brittany Johnson from wig, weave, and extensions company Mayvenn shared how the wolf cut is best suited for those with thicker hair with waves or curls. She said: "Straight hair will likely require a bit more styling time to create movement or volume at home.”
