Singapore’s First DIY Affogato Cafe Just Opened At Telok Ayer
Aifokato is a new takeaway spot in Singapore’s CBD that sells customisable affogato drinks, layered coffee and the viral butter mochi.
Seen an affogato with a diamond-shaped ice cream formation on your feed lately? No, those aren’t from Italy’s gelaterias, but rather, made right here in Singapore. Located in the bustling Telok Ayer district, Aifokato is Singapore’s first affogato cafe that specialises in customisable gelato lattes. It’s founded by the same folks behind the Korean tofu gelato shop, Tofu G and is inspired by the viral affogato pours that originated from Florence, Italy.
As its name might suggest, Aifokato’s speciality is its Signature Affogato ($10 per cup). But unlike other cafes that offer standard affogatos with just espresso and vanilla ice cream, Aifokato features a range of gelato flavours and hot pours for you to choose from.
You’ll get to pick your choice of dairy-based, egg- and gluten-free gelato from four options – Madagascar Vanilla, Korean Matcha, Dark Chocolate and Premium Pistachio – and watch as the staff spoon them onto the edges of your cup. To follow, pick your choice of hot pour – espresso, chocolate, matcha – which will then be dispensed into your cup of gelato. P.S. You might want to get your phone out to film this part.
While you’re there, you might also want to give Aifokato’s -86 Dirty Coffee ($10 per cup) a try. It’s a hot-over-cold layered concoction that blends a warm beverage over a chilled gelato base in a glass cup. The staff first take out an icy glass cup from the freezer, where milk and your choice of hot espresso, matcha or chocolate is then poured into. The result is a smooth, velvety drink that’s creamy and indulgent.
That’s not all, Aifokato has also tapped into the latest viral food trend: butter mochi. Served free with every cup ordered, Aifokato’s butter mochi has a carmelised exterior and a soft, chewy centre. If one piece isn’t enough, you can always purchase a box of four for $9.
