Who are they: One of the world’s greatest grindcore bands just happens to hail from Singapore. Fresh from its whirlwind European and Oceania tour, the legendary trio returns home for what should be the most ferocious set of Baybeats this year.

Why check them out: Its latest album, Hiss, has been a chart-topping global success, so expect loads of fresh material. Following the departure of Arif Rot, the group will feature new vocalist Gabriel Dubko (Implore), alongside an intriguing guest spot for indie artist Weish (.gif) for this upcoming performance.

When and where: Oct 7, Sat, 10:40pm at Powerhouse² (Singtel Waterfront Theatre at Esplanade). Requires free registration.

THE GREAT SPY EXPERIMENT

2/7

Who are they: Singapore’s indie rock pioneer The Great Spy Experiment makes its triumphant comeback after their break-up in 2015. A seminal band for the millennial generation who elevated the local scene to new heights.
Why check them out: It’s been eight long years since we’ve had the privilege of watching The Great Spy Experiment live. Equipped with a plethora of nostalgic, crowd-pleasing hits – this veteran band's fourth Baybeats appearance is bound to be a joyous and emotional homecoming.
When and where: Oct 8, Sunday, 8:20pm at Powerhouse² (Singtel Waterfront Theatre at Esplanade). Requires free registration.

DELTA SLEEP

3/7

Who are they: Hailed for its odd time signatures and unconventional song structures, British math rock quartet Delta Sleep has made a name for itself in recent years through three astonishing full-length albums.

Why check them out: Known for its knotty and kinetic music, Delta Sleep is easily one of the most technically and compositionally adept bands on this year's Baybeats lineup. More importantly, its playful and angular blend of math and indie rock translates exceptionally well to the stage.

When and where: Oct 6, Friday, 11pm at Powerhouse² (Singtel Waterfront Theatre at Esplanade).

MASS OF THE FERMENTING DREGS

4/7

Who are they: An absurdly talented Japanese trio that synthesises alternative rock, post-hardcore and shoegaze into an earnest, wide-eyed and amped-up ball of euphoria.

Why check them out: Fronted by the soaring melodic pop holler of vocalist/bassist Natsuko Miyamoto, Mass Of The Fermenting Dregs’ brand of dexterously arranged, guitar-driven adrenaline is a blast to watch live. Although the outfit has been around for over 20 years, its exuberant stage presence remains something to behold.

When and where: Oct 6, Friday, 9:50pm at Annexe (Esplanade Annexe Studio). Requires free registration.

CESSPIT

Shahrul
5/7

Who are they: This enduring Singaporean six-piece ska ensemble is celebrated for its catchy songs, dynamic horn section and upbeat tempos.

Why check them out: What’s more fun than breaking a sweat while skanking to infectious brass-fueled ska? Cesspit's breakout hits such as 'Wake Up' and 'Punkrock Gangster' are some of the most rousing tunes this island has ever produced. You won’t want to sit down for this set.

When and where: Oct 6, Fri, 10:20pm at Arena (DBS Foundation Outdoor Theatre at Esplanade)

SOS

6/7

Who are they: Formerly known as She's Only Sixteen, Filipino quintet SOS (pronounced as “sauce”) has been one of Southeast Asia’s premiere indie rock acts for well over a decade now.

Why check them out: From its effervescent and wistful new material to its freewheeling and spikier older catalogue – SOS’ repertoire overflows with sublime tunes. Its lively rhythms will have you grooving, but its jaded lyricism will have you feeling all the feels.

When and where: Oct 7, Saturday, 7:40pm at Annexe (Esplanade Annexe Studio) Requires free registration.

ROSALYN

Courtesy of Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay
7/7

Who are they: Dream pop sensation Rosalyn is one of the most exciting bands coming out of Thailand at the moment. Known for its slick and intimate sound, the group made regional waves last year with their sterling debut album, Skin.

Why check them out: Rosalyn’s soulful blend of psychedelic rock and R&B is irresistible. Its set, much like the singles, promises to sweep you into a blissful reverie.

When and where: Oct 7, Saturday, 6pm at Annexe (Esplanade Annexe Studio)
