The Hottest Parties In June 2023
We’re halfway through the year – but the party doesn’t end in this house.
By Nicholas See,
Whether 2023 has been good or bad for you so far, there is nothing a night out on the dancefloor can't fix. Thankfully, there is a range of exciting parties within the month of June that you will most definitely want to attend. To help you navigate the month’s nightlife happenings (both big and small), we have rounded up some of the wildest events that are taking place.
Since its inception in June 2022, techno collective Modal’s parties are known for their off-kilter beats and experimental tunes. Its parties broke pre-conceived notions of what techno is expected to be – with a repertoire that goes from deep, hypnotic synths to cutting-edge, raw industrial soundscapes. June happens to be their first anniversary – and the line-up is looking to be crazy. Located in the hedonistic landscape of Haw Par Villa, the party on June 9 will feature London-born, Berlin-based Tommy Four Seven as its headliner, who is known for his carefully crafted sets in many respected platforms including Resident Advisor and Boiler Room, as well as JEHM and EMS, who are each known for their boundary-breaking tunes in the local electronic scene respectively- meaning that you’ll be in for a genre-transcending auditory ride.

The Strange Weather team has always sought to push the format of raves, exceeding its patrons’ expectations with every party. With their firm belief that other mediums should exist hand in hand with otherworldly music, you’ll never know what to expect stepping into one of the collective’s parties. Their all-new monthly outfit Kelab Malam is no different, with its focus on off-kilter beats and experimental tunes. Situated within iKi at 20 Upper Circular Road, its second iteration on June 9 features Jakarta’s very own weird and groovy bunch – which includes the likes of Aditya Permana, Jonathan Kusuma and Ridwan alongside Strange Weather’s very own Yetpet, Kindergarchy, RTJ and Aalely.

Party collective Thugshop has been bringing a plethora of electrifying international acts to our dancefloors – and its upcoming event is no different. This June 10 at Tuff Club at 138 Robinson Road, be prepared to break up a sweat with Swedish DJ Christian Smith hitting the decks. At the forefront of the techno scene for over a decade, his approach to music is bold and innovative – often transgressing the typical boundaries of the genres that he plays. Playing alongside Christian Smith is Thugshop’s very own Vaibs, whose blend of groovy and similarly mind-bending techno is an apt prelude to Smith’s sonic leanings.

Queer party collective Bussy Temple has created some of the best local raves post-pandemic since its inception a year ago – so you would expect their upcoming Pride Month party to be one of the most anticipated events in June. With an all-queer and gender non-conforming lineup, the party features five of the craziest international and local DJs on the scene. From Berlin-based Dance Divine with their 150bpm bangers to UK-based Sayang who traverses raw noise and high voltage beats through all-vinyl sets with nods to a background in UK techno and dubstep, the party at 72-13 Mohamed Sultan Road is complemented by light shows by artist Alina Ling for a truly immersive experience.
