If you’ve caught the heartwarming Thai film How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies, chances are you’d probably already know who he is. 27-year-old Putthipong Assaratanakul, better known as Billkin, is a Thai actor and singer that made his global cinema breakout as M in the domestic box office hit in 2024.

While he’s firmly cemented himself as one of Thailand’s most acclaimed rising actors, Billkin’s music career is definitely not something to be overlooked. Aside from having top-charting solo tracks, Billkin is often featured on the soundtracks of many of the popular series that he stars in as well. With the release of his sophomore studio album Grow With The Flow, the Thai superstar recently arrived in Singapore for his first-ever solo concert here. In an exclusive interview, he shared more about his latest release, his experience performing on tour, and what fans can expect from him in the future.

Tell us more about your latest album Grow With The Flow. What’s the inspiration behind the album, and what are you hoping fans would take away from it?

Billkin: “The inspiration for this album is just an exploration, because during the production process I learnt a lot of things and I tried many new ways of thinking and making. It’s a learning process for myself and my team as well, and it’s about how I felt at that time and what I wanted to do and explore, which also translates to the concept of the album.”

What was the most challenging part of creating Grow With The Flow?

Billkin: “The most challenging part would probably be during the time that I was in London, where we had to shoot a music video. We had to work remotely for certain processes, and also needed to prepare a lot of things beforehand to make everything run smoothly during my time there – to me that was the hardest part.”

You’re widely recognised for your acting work, particularly in How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies, or Lahn Mah. How different has it been stepping onto the stage as a singer and embarking on a tour?

Billkin: “I think it’s a very different kind of work. For the tour and being on stage, it’s a mixture of preparation and improvisation as well. Another important part is also to get the energy of the audience and also work with what they give me, which is something that affects the overall performance of the show. That’s something I find extremely fun.”

Is there a song that has become especially meaningful to you through performing it live on tour?

Billkin: “Golden Hour. The song has been rearranged into a new version, and it worked really well with the audience in Bangkok and Macau. It’s a version that even I never expected, and I think the audience might feel the same way.”

Do you have any fashion staples or accessories that have become your good luck charm while on tour?

Billkin: “My ear monitor, because it’s custom-made for me. I just feel very comfortable with it even when I am in a different country.”

What are you most looking forward to performing here in Singapore for the first time?

Billkin: “I’ve heard that my movie was very successful in Singapore, and I just wanted to come and meet the fans that have found me through the show and perform songs from the show’s OST as well. I don’t expect anything more than just to see them and thank them physically.”

What about your performance do you think your Singapore fans would resonate with the most?

Billkin: “The OST songs from the movie Lahn Mah.”

Lastly, any future plans for fans to look forward to in the coming year?

Billkin: “I’m currently working on my new album which is extremely exciting for me because I’ve put everything into it. I think I’ll be able to release my first song of this album very soon, and it’s going to be the biggest part of this year for me.”
