By KENG YANG SHUEN,
The next time you take off for a flight, make sure to make a detour and check out the new Terminal 4. While the terminal has yet to officially open, we've heard that it's due to open in something in October - though there is a preliminary Open House for the public that takes place 7 - 20 August. All 200,000 tickets have however, been snapped up.
We were invited earlier this week for a preview and before we take you through the space, here are some basic facts to know about the new terminal.
- 1. It sits on where the former Budget Terminal (which lasted all of six years) used to be. (Remember when the airport held a naming contest for the terminal - only to end up picking "Budget Terminal" as the winner?)
2. The new Terminal 4 (T4) sits at the southern end of the overall airport complex, and is a two-storey, 25 meters-high building occupying a total area of 225,000 square meters (or approximately 27 football fields).
3. Nine airlines will operate out of T4: the Air Asia Group (which comprises of four airlines), Cathay Pacific, Cebu Pacific, Korean Air, Spring Airlines and Vietnam Airlines.
4. Unlike the three existing terminals, there is no Skytrain connecting T4 to the other terminals. Visitors will have to take a shuttle bus from T2 - the trip will take about five minutes.
5. There will be 80 retail and F&B stores at T4: over a quarter of which is new to Changi Airport.
