Things To Do In Singapore: Disney+ Launches, A Billie Eilish Documentary & A Poignant Exhibition
Our weekly edit of the things to do in Singapore.
By Keng Yang Shuen,
This week, Disney+ finally takes off in Singapore, while artist Shen Jiaqi explores how Singapore's relentless pursuit of change affects our lived experiences. And for Billie Eilish fans, don't miss out on the teen sensation's brand new documentary.
The teen superstar will soon unveil Billie Eilish: The World's a Little Blurry – the first (of many, we're sure) documentary on her life and work. Directed by award-winning filmmaker R.J Cutler (who also directed The September Issue), the documentary focuses on how Eilish's monster debut album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? came together. If you're a big fan of the singer (who isn't? at this point), head down to The Projector to catch a screening.
Opens February 26 at The Projector, #05-00 Golden Mile Tower
In our recent Jan/Feb'21 issue, we highlighted artist Shen Jiaqi as one to watch for her lush, otherworldly microcosms that are the artist's way of commenting on certain topics and issues, such as staying within one's comfort zones. She typically features communal spaces such as void decks and HDB corridors to draw greater attention to her commentary, with neon yellow lines and accents as recurrent motifs inspired by signs used to demarcate smoking areas. Now, Shen will be putting on her third solo exhibition, titled Ever-Were, which poignantly explores how fast-paced changes, so common in Singapore, can result in an internalised sense of loss.
February 27 to March 14 at Cuturi Gallery, 61 Aliwal Street

There's a shiny new streaming service in town and we're excited. Disney+ has just launched in Singapore (as if one could avoid all the promotional collaterals!), and with it, more than 650 films and 15,000 episodes of content from all six content brands of The Walt Disney Company – Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, National Geographic, as well as Star.
Yes the fan favourites such as Avengers are all there but there are also the latest releases such as Star Wars' The Mandalorian and Marvel's Wandavision. And as if that's not enough, the viewing experience promises to be top notch, with ultra-vivid imaging and sound projection thanks to a collaboration with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos technologies. Prices start at S$11.98 a month or S$119.98 a year – so get cracking.
