An Hermes exhibition is always a delectable treat - just see last year’s gloriously imaginative On the Wings of Hermes, which blended dance, object puppetry, music and cinema to tell the story of the mythical flying horse Pegasus and its seven foals.

This year, the focus is on carres - the French term for squares - that is, the silk scarves that the French maison is so famous for. After all, the French luxury house’s silk carres have been more than accessories since they debuted in 1937; they’ve been canvases for artists, packed with colour, whimsy and storytelling. Over the decades, designs like Bottes Story, Pony Pit Stop and Le Philateliste du Faubourg have become instantly recognisable, balancing tradition with playful imagination.

The Hermes silk scarf has always been a playground for wonderful art - this one, from the brand’s Fall Winter 2025 collection, is by Studio des Fleurs.

This month, Hermes will be staging a new exhibition (October 23 - November 5) at Marina Bay Sands titled The Silky Way, which takes that colourful history and transforms it into an immersive spectacle. There will reportedly be a constellation-filled night sky experience - undoubtedly with the silk scarves as the shining main characters. Visitors are invited to lie back, look up and watch the stories hidden in the fabric unfold against the night sky; think of it as part fashion show, part art installation, part cosmic daydream.
