The Animation Film Kpop Demon Hunters is on Netflix Now
Pop stars by day, hunters by night. Kpop Demon Hunters is the animated film you didn't know you needed to watch.
By Sarah Adriana,
You’ve probably already caught a glimpse of Kpop Demon Hunters in your feed, whether it was a fan edit, or someone arguing that the villainous boy band is hotter than they have any right to be. The animated action-musical fantasy film, which dropped on Netflix June 20, comes from the same studio that gave us the Spider-Verse films. And it’s just as stylish, only this time, with a soundtrack that actually hits.
The story follows Rumi, Mira, and Zoey, a K-pop girl group known as HUNTR/X. Onstage, they’re pop perfection. Offstage? They’re part-time demon slayers, protecting their fandom from dark forces and facing off against their fiercest supernatural rivals yet: an all-male demon boy band that’s as dangerous as they are dreamy.
KPOP DEMON HUNTERS - When they aren't selling out stadiums, Kpop superstars Rumi, Mira and Zoey use their secret identities as badass demon hunters to protect their fans from an ever-present supernatural threat. Together, they must face their biggest enemy yet – an irresistible rival boy band of demons in disguise. ©2025 Netflix
K-pop trio Rumi, Mira, and Zoey of group HUNTR/X.
Rumi’s foster mother Celine, a former demon hunter herself, is their guide. The trio use their vocals not just to dominate music shows but to keep a magical barrier, called the Honmoon intact, separating the human and demon worlds. But keeping evil at bay isn’t so easy when the demonic king Gwi Ma and his soul-snatching minions have other plans.
The film is an animated musical fantasy action comedy directed by Maggie Kang, who was head of story on the Lego Ninjago Movie (2017), and Chris Appelhans, an American illustrator, production designer, and film director, who wrote and directed the 2021 film Wish Dragon. Kpop Demon Hunters blends high-gloss animation with genre-bending flair.

The Cast of Kpop Demon Hunters
The voice cast of Kpop Demon Hunters features names such as Arden Cho, American actress and singer who lends her voice to Rumi, the HUNTR/X's leader and main vocalist. May Hong brings the heat as the group’s dancer and visual, while Ji-young Yoo handles the bars as the main rapper. Ahn Hyo-seop (yes, that Ahn Hyo-seop) plays Jinu, the impossibly perfect frontman of demon boy band Saja Boys.

Elsewhere in the lineup: South Korean and American actress, Yunjin Kim as Celine, Rumi's foster mother and former demon hunter in the film; Daniel Dae Kim as a slightly unhinged doctor; South Korean-American comedian, Ken Jeong as the girls’ manager; and Squid Game’s Lee Byung-hun as Gwi Ma, the demon overlord. Also voicing roles: SungWon Cho, Joel Kim Booster, Alan Lee, Danny Chung, and internet icon Liza Koshy. A stacked cast, basically.
K-Pop Demon Hunters' Soundtrack
You can’t have a K-pop film without K-pop-level tracks. The original songs are surprisingly legit, no half-baked filler here. TAKEDOWN, the lead single, features vocals from TWICE members Jeongyeon, Jihyo, and Chaeyoung. The directors also engaged top-level music producers to produce K-pop worthy soundtracks, such as THEBLACKLABEL co-founder Teddy Park, who's worked with K-pop girl group Blackpink and artist Taeyang.

The soundtrack also includes tracks like How It's Done and Golden, performed by EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and REI AMI, and produced by IDO, 24, TEDDY, and Ian Eisendrath (who's works are best known in the hit Broadway musical Come from Away and the series Only Murders in the Building).
Will Kpop Demon Hunters have a sequel?
Fans are already clamoring for part two. Directors have teased the possibility, but Netflix hasn’t confirmed anything just yet. Still, between the fan art and soundtrack streams, it’s safe to say we haven’t seen the last of HUNTR/X or the Saja Boys.
