FYI, everyone's favourite (and endlessly quoted) high school film is back – the 2024 reboot of Mean Girls opens this weekend, with OG writer Tina Fey at the helm. Word on the street is that the Gen Z version of Mean Girls has less "bite" than the OG, but you'll never know until you catch it yourself. More details below.

CATCH THE 2024 REBOOT OF MEAN GIRLS

Paramount Pictures
1/7

Twenty years after it debuted, Mean Girls remains a cultural touchpoint as much as ever, spawning permanent pop culture quotes, Broadway musicals, video games, and now, a film musical version. The good news is that the 2024 version remains written by the OG - Tina Fey - who reprises her role as a high school teacher – and Tim Meadows returns as the frazzled principal too. The storyline of an innocent home-schooled outsider, Cady Heron (played by Angourie Rice), who grew up in Kenya and who has to navigate the treacherous, hyper-hierarchical waters of an American high school, remains largely the same.

What has changed however, is the update to language used - 2004's "fat virgin" has now become "horny shrimp" and homophobic jokes toned down - even queen bee Regina George (played by Renee Rapp) is not immune to Gen Z's embrace of body positivity and dumping of toxic behaviour.

SHOP THE SECOND UNIQLO: C COLLECTION

Uniqlo
2/7

Feted British designer Clare Waight Keller (who formerly led the houses of Chloe from 2011 – 2017 and Givenchy from 2017 – 2020) is back with a second collection for Uniqlo under the latter's Uniqlo: C range. The designer is known for favouring relaxed lines and accordingly, the Uniqlo: C Spring Summer 2024 collection features many stand-out pieces cut in an effortlessly slouchy silhouette, such as this summer suit pictured here. Cropped knitted vests, pretty pleated dresses paired with military-style trench coats and jackets, and cute checkered baseball caps round off the playful combination of the feminine and masculine, another Waight Keller signature.

“In this second collection for Uniqlo: C, I wanted to explore the concept of movement through lightness. Working with ultra-light fabrications, I found a new perspective of proportions. Longer volumes play against cropped silhouettes. Fluidity and freshness were key elements of the spirit. I think that Spring represents a time of transition where the seasons change, and our wardrobes need the same flexibility," says Waight Keller.

The collection will launch in two waves, with the first slated to arrive February 23, and the second to arrive on March 21 at Uniqlo's ION Orchard and online store, followed by a rollout to all stores on March 22.

DANCE TO J LO

Baby Boy
4/7

Miss Jenny from the block has been all over our feeds lately with the non-stop promo of her ninth album and her first in a decade, titled This Is Me... Now. It's merely the first component of a three-part extravaganza, which includes an accompanying musical film and a documentary, all self-financed by the pop star. It only makes sense that J Lo is the theme of queer party series Baby Boy's latest edition, aptly named THIS IS BB...NOW: A J.LO STORY.

There'll be drag performances by local icons like Kak Nina Boo, Mizz Koko, Sapphire Blast, Stellar Moon and Yeastmonster, with stalwart DJ Lokies Khan behind the decks – get your tickets here.

SNAG THE BEST PIZZA IN TOWN AT THIS 4-HANDS DINNER

La Bottega Enoteca

Pizza fiends know that La Bottega Enoteca is one of the best, if not the best, purveyors of the dish in Singapore, having nabbed the 19th spot (and top rank in Singapore) in the 50 Top Pizza awards in the Asia Pacific region back in June. Now chef and owner Antonio Miscellaneo is teaming up with another pizza heavyweight – Chef Diego Vitagliano of Neapolitan restaurant 10 Diego Vitagliano, which was crowned number one at the same award last year.

This event marks the first joint venture for both chefs, where they will present an eight-course culinary journey reflecting the flavours of their childhood, life experiences, and careers. This will be accompanied by three non-alcoholic beverages, all priced at $168++ per person. For those seeking to elevate the experience, the option to include wine with the menu is available for an additional $20 per person.

HIT A CHILL DAYTIME PARTY

Ice Cream Sundays
7/7

After helming their own Sunda festival and travelling across Asia for showcases at Hong Kong’s Shi Fu Miz and Thailand’s Wonderfruit, no one would have blamed party collective Ice Cream Sundays (ICS) if they decided to take time off to recharge. But the hardworking crew is back at it with another exhilarating daytime party at Tanjong Pagar Distripark. ICS jumpstarts their year by inviting special guests Monkey Timers to their latest outdoor shindig. Made up of Takekawa and Hisashi from Disko Klubb, this duo has been leading Tokyo’s underground scene for 15 years now, and we’re psyched to see them export their new house and disco dub flavour to Singapore. For dessert, they’ll be joined by the triple scoop of Bongomann, Toppings, and Muto, who’ll be playing his sayonara set before he relocates to Japan.

Get your tickets here.

February 24, 3pm-10:30pm, at 39 Tanjong Pagar Distripark, 39 Keppel Road
