Listen Up To An All-Singaporean Lineup At WHABBY! Music Carnival 2019
It’s time to #supportlocal.
By LYDIA CHENG,
Keep the date of 22 June free, for an exciting new music carnival happening in the heart of Orchard Road. The WHABBY! Music Carnival 2019 will be a full-day, family-friendly affair, boasting tunes from a slew of promising and talented Singaporean artists. The best part? It is completely free.
Powered by CITY65 Music, WHABBY! Music is a global online music community created and based in Singapore that aims to promote local music to an international audience (think of this as a nice role reversal). Hosting this music carnival is part of the team’s efforts to spotlight Singaporean musicians and provide them with a wider platform to showcase their talents. Whether you are interested in rap, rock, electronic, or even samba music, there will be something for you to groove to. Highlights in the lineup include Shye, who has been compared to the likes of Billie Elish and Clairo with her style of dream/electro-pop produced entirely in the solitude of her own bedroom. Says the 16-year-old about her music: “I guess you could say my music is experimental because it is literally made
through trial and error. I think it also depicts how I am as a person.“ As to what fans can
expect from her at the carnival, Shye says that her set will be “light-hearted but with a
serious note to loving oneself.”
Enjoying free music while supporting local artists? Sounds like a win-win for all.
