Nathania Ong has emerged in recent years as a trailblazer in local theatre. Making history as one of the only Singaporeans to star in London’s West End productions, it’s clear that the 28-year-old is destined to go far – and this is only the beginning. As she continues making waves across both the local and international theatre communities, here are some facts to know about Nathania Ong – including her upcoming Legally Blonde lead role, her time as Eponine in Les Miserables, and how it all began.
1. Nathania will be starring as Elle Woods in SRT’s Legally Blonde musical in 2026
Omigod you guys, Singapore finally gets our very own Elle Woods! After earning acclaim for her roles in West End theatre, Ong is finally returning to home soil to star in Legally Blonde – The Musical with Singapore Repertory Theatre (SRT). It’s safe to say that we can’t wait to see Nathania bend, snap and wow audiences once more as she takes on Elle Wood’s signature pink-clad confidence. 2. She’s the first Singaporean to play Eponine in Les Miserables on West End
In 2022, Ong landed the coveted lead role of Eponine in West End’s Les Miserables – a first for any Singaporean in history. Performing eight shows a week, she brought depth, heart, and a quiet resilience to the role. Come March 2026, she will be reprising her role as Eponine when Les Miserables takes the stage in Singapore at Marina Bay Sands’ Sands Theatre – tickets can be purchased here.
3. Nathania made her West End debut in Be More Chill
Although much buzz surrounding the actress came after the news of her role on Les Miserables, Ong actually made her West End theatre debut in 2021, as school gossip Jenna Rolan in pop-rock sci-fi musical Be More Chill.
4. She also starred as Eliza Hamilton in West End’s Hamilton
Adding to her growing list of West End roles, Nathania starred as one of the Schuyler sisters in Hamilton in 2024 – a prestigious role for any female musical theatre performer.
5. She was Cinderella in Pangdemonium’s production of Into the Woods
While Ong has become widely known for her work on the West End, her last role on homeground saw her stepping into the glass slippers of Cinderella in local theatre company Pangdemonium’s musical production of Into the Woods in 2023.
6. It all started with a childhood performance for Singapore’s former president
When Nathania was just five years old, a vocal coach recognised that she had perfect pitch, a rare talent that hinted at her future stardom. That same year, she sang live for former president S. R. Nathan – an experience she later recalled as igniting her lifelong passion for performing.
7. She’s a dog lover
A quick scroll through Ong’s Instagram makes one thing clear – she’s a devoted dog lover. Enter Marshmallow, her three-year-old dachshund and a frequent scene-stealer on her Instagram grid. 8. Nathania earned a standing ovation at the National Lottery’s Big Night of Musicals
Delivering a spellbinding rendition of On My Own at the Big Night of Musicals in 2023, Ong commanded the stage at Manchester’s AO Arena, performing in front of a crowd of almost 12,000 to a roaring standing ovation. Broadcast across various BBC platforms, her performance drew widespread praise for its emotional delivery, with viewers erupting in cheers and applause before she even reached the final note.
