Fashion Designer Phillip Lim Reveals His Shopping Haunts Around The World

The New York-based designer shares his favourite places around the world to hit up for men’s clothes.

#1: IF: New York

"This is one of New York’s last original boutiques with great brands such as Junya Watanabe Man, Toogood and By Walid. I love that it still has its unique aesthetic as well as amazing sales staff who are very knowledgeable and personable."

#2: Front General Store, New York

"This store in New York’s Dumbo (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) quarter is a wonderful boutique for vintage clothes and items such as French and Italian sunglasses from the ’40s and ’50s, as well as military garment pins repurposed as accessories. The proprietor has the best knowledge of vintage. It’s great not knowing what treasures I will find on each visit."

#3: Delstore, Hong Kong

"This is a great men’s store that specialises in chic, simple, under-the-radar Japanese brands. For me, it’s a reminder of how it’s still possible to make special discoveries in major fashion cities."

#4: Haven, Toronto

"Haven has brick-and-mortar stores in Toronto and Vancouver, but I really like its online shop. It offers a great mix of men’s streetwear. It’s wonderful to be able to shop 24/7 from anywhere in the world!"

#5: Dries van Noten men’s store, Paris

"is such a special store. I love its interior and the rich history of the space. My favourite thing to do is walk along the River Seine to pop into this discreet gem."

#6: Beams, Tokyo

"It’s so much fun visiting this store in Shinjuku to discover local Japanese brands that are creating fun and interesting menswear."
