Everything We Know About Stranger Things’ Animated Spin-Off On Netflix
The story isn’t quite over yet... an animated Stranger Things spin-off is headed our way for April 23, 2026.
If you thought that the Stranger Things’ story ended on December 31, 2025, we’ve got some news for you: the series is getting a brand new animated spin-off on April 23, 2026: Stranger Things: Tales From ‘85.
Spot any familiar faces? The entire crew of Mike, Dustin, Lucas, Eleven, Will and Max return in a new animated spin-off, Stranger Things: Tales From ‘85.
Our beloved crew at Hawkins returns with an animated expansion (produced by the Duffer Brothers) of the Stranger Things universe. It’s not quite a sequel — think of it more as a peek into their crew’s lives between the second and third season of the original series, before Vecna and the backdrop of a Cold War conspiracy truly started wreaking havoc on their lives.
Other than the main crew, other returning characters expected to make an appearance are Hopper, Joyce, and Steve.
What’s the Stranger Things animated spin-off about?
The series takes place between the second and third season of Stranger Things and follows the entire core crew of Mike, Will, Eleven, Lucas, Dustin and Max as they go on a paranormal adventure in the winter of 1985. This is after Eleven’s year-long residence with Hopper and Will’s return from the Upside Down, and before Mind Flayers began to ‘possess’ citizens of Hawkins (like Max’s older brother, Billy).
It’s really more time with our beloved characters — more time to understand the group’s dynamics, their friendship, witness them be young and adventurous children, and see who they were before Hawkins was put on a military shut down in the third season.
Will the Stranger Things cast be reprsing their roles in Stranger Things: Tales From ‘85?
Unfortunately, no. None of the main cast will be returning to voice their characters in this animated series.
That said, a new character is about to be introduced: Nikki Baxter, voiced by rising Gen Z Hollywood darling, Odessa A’zion.
When will Stranger Things: Tales From ‘85 be released?
All ten episodes will be released on Netflix on April 23, 2026 in Singapore.
