Name: Jewel Chin
Age: 22
Occupation: Data science and artificial intelligence student and owner of crochet and knitwear label String of Kisses
The fit: "I'm wearing a cowl-neck top that I knitted myself, along with this bag, which was a work in progress, but I decided to bring it out to add a pop of colour to my outfit. My belt is from the Whimzi market pop-up, and my trousers are from the Arcade x Nathaniel Fong collection."
The first item she crocheted: "After A-levels, I wanted to try a new hobby to keep myself occupied and productive, so I randomly took up crochet. The first thing I made was a coaster, then I went straight into attempting to make clothes for myself and created a basic crop top! I’ve never looked back from designing and making clothes for myself (and my own brand) since."
A tip for those looking to start their own business: "Building a strong online presence and community is crucial. Share your creative process with your audience – show them the behind-the-scenes work that goes into making your products or other preparations. This builds trust and makes your business more memorable!"
Name: Anthony Hwang
Age: 20
Occupation: Student
The fit: "My outfit has a more relaxed look because it's oversized. I use a lot of jewellery to make my outfit stand out and serve as a focal point. My top and trousers are by Rick Owens, my shoes and shades are by Balenciaga, and my bag is from Diesel. For accessories, my rings are a mix of m.a+ by Maurizio Amadei, Enfants Riches Deprimes, and To Garal, while my necklace is from the Balenciaga x Under Armour collaboration."
A style tip: "If you wear very dark colours like I do, the silhouette and cut of the clothes and accessories can make them stand out. For colourful pieces, you can complement them by mixing colours and textures together. But what’s most important is that you feel good and confident in your outfit."
What should everyone be watching right now: "I don’t really watch movies or shows, but I’ve heard good things about the new Transformers film."
Name: Khoo Hui Yi
Age: 22
Occupation: Unemployed
The fit: "Most of the items are 'borrowed' from people around me. My bag and watch are from my mum, and the trousers belong to my friend (I haven’t returned them to him in almost half a year, so if he sees this...)."
A fashion weakness: "Mismatched socks."
Her personal style in three words: "Dark, alt, scavenger."
Name: Cornelius Lee
Age: 25
Occupation: Business student
The fit: "The tank top is from H&M, and the shoes and trousers are souvenirs from Korea. The trousers are by LMOOD, a kendo-inspired South Korean brand, with large box pleats at the front and a reverse pleat at the back. I love the adjustable drawstring at the hem, which I’ve tightened towards my ankles to create a balloon silhouette. The shoes are from In-Half, a South Korean brand that handcrafts tabi-inspired shoes. This pair is their take on a German army trainer, with a wider, more comfortable toebox. I love them and wear them as often as I can. The bag is a gift from my best friend, who brought it back from Vietnam. It looks great, and the leather strap is a nice touch."
The most interesting thing he learned recently: "I took a module on search engine optimisation and social listening, where I learned how Google decides which search ads to show users and how companies optimise the bidding process to compete. It’s fascinating, and I hope to learn more in the future."
The biggest fashion risk he has taken: "Honestly, I wasn’t a fan of the recent trend for cropped shirts. I hate it when a bit of skin shows when I sit down – it just feels odd! I took a risk and hemmed one of my shirts with a pair of scissors. I can’t say I’m fully sold on the look, but it does offer a variety of silhouettes compared to my usual shirts. It’s especially nice when my trousers have big pleats."
Name: Batrishia Anaqah Binte Sofian
Age: 25
Occupation: Arts student
The fit: "I’ve been really into pirate-core lately, so I’ve been wearing silk scarves as bandanas much more often. Silver, red, and black are my favourite colours, so most of my outfits revolve around them. The top is one of my favourites because of its asymmetry and flow; it’s perfect for Singapore’s hot weather as it’s super airy. For the bottom half, I love the silhouette that skirts and flared trousers create, so whenever I wear a shorter skirt, I usually pair it with my flared pants."
Her personal style: "I can’t really put it in a box, as I experiment with different styles depending on my mood for the day. If I had to label it, maybe whimsical alternative? A lot of my outfits end up looking like they’re from video games or fairytales. Sometimes I dress like a vampire, pirate, fairy, or princess – it really depends on what I feel like that day."
Favourite art piece of all time: "My favourite art installation of all time would be a more recent piece – Status by Jane Lee. When I first saw it at the Singapore Art Museum, I was immediately drawn to how unique it was. The textures, the way the paint piles up at the bottom, and how it resembled blood really stood out to me. The symbolism of the piece resonated with me too – a 'painting' that clings to its status as a painting, even though it wouldn't be considered one due to its unconventional 3D form. It challenges what the art world deems a 'proper painting', which I think reflects me as a person in a way."
Name: Donna Chua
Age: 22
Occupation: Computer science student and the brains behind the independent label, Epic
The fit: "The top I’m wearing is handmade by my best friend, Jewel of String Of Kisses — it’s my Christmas gift from her. My necklaces are from small businesses Affirmation Club and DillyDallyDally. The trousers are from Marks & Spencer, paired with a shell belt and layered with a scarf, all from my mum’s wardrobe. I’m wearing my New Rock-inspired dupes and carrying my Oakley bag. The bangles are from Taobao."
Her secret to making any outfit stand out: "My secret is layering and paying attention to shaping my silhouette, then letting the clothes do their thing to flatter my body shape."
What she’d wear if she had an unlimited budget: "Lately, I’ve been wishing I could afford Marina Eerie’s pieces – they’re so beautiful."
Name: Yusuff Zulkifli
Age: 26
Occupation: IT Engineer
The fit: "My top is an old sweater I snipped up with scissors, paired with some three-quarter Dickies shorts and a pair of Dr. Martens. I had just finished some work, so my laptop is with me, and I’m also a big fan of crossbody bags. Lastly, my bracelet and rings are from a local pop-up fair."
The last item he bought that he didn’t need but couldn’t resist: "Stickers! I love decorating my water bottle with them."
A New Year’s resolution he plans to stick to: "To have a closer relationship with my ageing parents."
Name: Sage Lew
Age: 24
Occupation: Working in fintech
The fit: "The top and puffy skirt are from The C.I.U Shop, which I picked up while shopping in Vietnam, paired with socks from Caraclub. My bag is the iconic 1DR from Diesel, and the shoes are Crocs Siren heels. I’ve been really inspired by current Vietnamese fashion – their designs and materials are perfect for Singapore’s weather: girly yet cool. I like this outfit because it gives off a casual-chic vibe, especially with the cropped top and puffy skirt combination. The Crocs Siren heels give me that extra boost of confidence to pull the look together."
A fashion era she loves: "The early 2000s. I’d revisit the period for its nostalgic looks, like low-rise jeans, halter tops, and chunky shoes. The bold, playful style of that time feels so fun and iconic."
Style advice as a fintech girlie: "Work hard, slay harder! Working in fintech, I usually have to dress more professionally during the week. But on weekends, I allow myself to experiment and dress differently to express my personal style. My advice would be to invest in quality pieces. A classic white shirt, a well-fitting pair of jeans, or a statement handbag can easily elevate any outfit."
Name: Yazid Swee
Age: 44
Occupation: Hair stylist, photographer and real estate agent
The fit: "My coveralls are a vintage Dickies jumpsuit I found in a thrift store, complete with oil stains and dirt that tell its story. The cap? Vintage Motul, of course. And the shoes? Adidas, naturally."
What influences his style: "My style changes daily, influenced by where I’m going, the tasks I need to tackle, and the vibe I want to project. Lately, I’ve been channeling the look of a garage mechanic – though not quite the real deal."
The most rewarding part of his job: "The best part of my job is meeting real people, forging genuine connections, and building relationships – some of which have blossomed into lasting friendships that I still cherish today."
