A Gorgeous Hotel In The Swiss Alps Has Just Opened

Set 1,111 metres above sea level and close to the upscale resort town of Gstaad in Switzerland, the Huus Gstaad is a postcard-perfect stay for the discerning traveller. Formerly known as the Steigenberger Hotel, the revamp involved a total makeover of the entire seven-storey building by renowned Swedish architect Erik Nissen Johansen.

The 136-room hotel's classic Alpine chalet structure hails from the '80s, and Johansen decided to keep the building's traditional exterior while infusing its interior with modern touches. Rich colours and textures feature throughout the space, from the tastefully furnished hotel lobby to the hotel's communal fireplace, and evoke a sense of quiet luxury.

Rooms, too, are designed to look and feel like you're hiding out in a friend's mountain retreat. Pendulum lights add warmth, while beds come with natural woollen blankets (so an extra cosy night's rest is assured).

Other little luxuries in the space include an indoor pool, a Finnish sauna, an extensive library as well as a dedicated mountain concierge who will be on hand to advise guests on all active pursuits.

By that, we're referring to activities that can take place within the hotel's sprawling grounds: Ample slopes and trails for ski and snowboard enthusiasts during winter time, and river rafting, canoeing and rappelling in the summer. Rates start from $367 a night, find out more here
