Maria Grazia Chiuri has been on a whirlwind tour of Mumbai in the last few days. The occasion: to prepare for Dior's Fall 2023 runway collection, which will take place in the western Indian city on March 30 at 11pm Singapore time. The show will be staged at the Gateway of India, the basalt arch monument that was completed in 1924 to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to India 13 years earlier.

The choice of Mumbai is not by coincidence, though. In an Instagram post, Chiuri dedicated the Fall 2023 collection "to the long-standing relationship with India and the exploration of the century-old techniques". The city is also home to Chiuri's ongoing collaborator, Chanakya. The non-profit school for craft for women started in 2016, with the objective of preserving the heritage of Indian craftsmanship while encouraging female autonomy and feminist values – something that Chiuri have imbued her work with at Dior since Day One.

The bustling Indian cosmopolitan is the latest overseas spot for the maison's transeasonal collections. Past destinations include Seville in southern Spain for Cruise 2023, Athens for Cruise 2022, and Puglia in southern Italy for Cruise 2021.
