With millions of streams and a devoted global following, Wave To Earth has become one of South Korea’s most compelling indie acts. By now, their dreamy blend of indie rock, jazz and lo-fi sound has likely found its way onto your TikTok feed or a carefully curated playlist. The trio – consisting of vocalist & guitarist Daniel Kim, bassist John Cha and drummer Dong Q – has also become a favourite among Gen Z listeners worldwide, weaving themes of nature, nostalgia and love into songs that resonate deeply with their listeners. Fresh off the release of their latest single, Heaven and Hell, the band stopped by Singapore for a special busking session on June 1, 2026. We sat down with them to talk about the new release, their creative inspirations, and the community they’ve built with fans across the globe.

Let’s start with your latest release, Heaven and Hell. What was the inspiration behind it?

John Cha: “Everybody carries their own heaven and hell, and we kind of live in a world of condemnation where it’s easy to judge each other based on our differences. It’s kind of a question about what’s right, and, you know, maybe the right way to live is to have an honest heart and a pure mind.”

Your music has also resonated strongly with younger listeners around the world. Why do you think Gen Z audiences connect so deeply with Wave To Earth’s music?

Daniel Kim: “Personally, I think it’s because I approach music from a place of innocent and pure hearted intention, just like John’s answer. The current world is very messy and there’s a lot of, you know, noise in this world. We’re trying to approach our music with a pure heart and I think that’s what connects us with the younger fans.”

Fans also love the visual identity and styling of the band. How would you describe the “wave to earth” aesthetic, in three words?

“Minimal, cosy and cool.”

Do you have a go-to stage outfit or fashion staple that you always bring with you when performing or going on world tours?

John Cha: “It’s not a fashion item, but for my hair products, I usually bring pomade oil and stiff wax. I mix them together to style my spiky hair!”

Daniel Kim: “I’m actually [always] wearing the same ring, like these Cartier and Chrome Hearts rings. They’re my favourite.”

Dong Q: “My tooth gems.”

You’ve sold out your Singapore shows for the past two years. What has your experience in Singapore been like so far?

Daniel Kim: “Actually, we came to Singapore several times and we really wanted to go out and explore, but we couldn’t do that while on the tour. I think it’s the first time we’re truly going outside and exploring Singapore through our busking session this time around. It was really fun and we would love to come back for a vacation.”

Finally, what can Singapore fans look forward to when you return for your world tour stop here this coming November?

John Cha: “New album, new song, new live set, new everything. Every time we go on tour, we grow in one way or another, so I think you’ll definitely be able to see our growth in this coming world tour.”
