Need the perfect salve to what has been a week full of intense drama and tension? Perhaps the two introspective art exhibitions happening at Cuturi Gallery and Yeo Workshop are just what you need to soothe your mind. If all else fails, we assure you that a little retail therapy at the garage sale by Singapore design outfit Youths In Balaclava might do the trick.
Cuturi Gallery is keeping up its blistering pace of exhibitions. Kick off the gallery's first show of the year is Flowa Powa by rising French visual artist Julien Des Monstiers. His signature paintings often play with colour and texture, seeking to illustrate depth, layers, textures and folds – beauty and chaos appear to exist in tension as floral motifs are repeatedly imprinted across the canvases. It's the sort of work that rewards on closer inspection, so we'd encourage you to go down in person to experience des Monstier's techniques and visceral use of colour.

Homegrown design collective Youths In Balaclava, known for their ’90s-heavy, tie-dye and graphics-embellished streetwear, is putting on a garage sale. It may be a new year but our sense of time and normalcy continues to be disrupted and distorted by the pandemic. Singapore-based Taiwanese-American artist Mike HJ Chang has built on that theme for his latest solo show, Calendar of Dilation, which explores how perceptions of the passage of time are altered and shaped by our environments. It's a whimsical show spanning paintings, sculptures, and the moving image, all navigating how time flows, disorients and alters our perception in different ways. Apt for a nebulous period and well worth a visit.
