A Decade Of Jacquemus And Everything We’ve Loved
Leading up to the brand’s 10th-anniversary show in Provence, we take a look at some of Jacquemus' most iconic pieces
By Maya Menon,
It’s been ten years since French designer Simon Porte Jacquemus took the Paris fashion world by storm. The then-19-year-old garnered heavyweight fans such as Adrian Joffe and designer Rei Kawakubo with his uninhibited, mischievous take on classic French design - challenging the
traditional norms of European draping and tailoring. The evolution of the Jacquemus’ vision has brought about daring, asymmetrical silhouettes to life – often accompanied by signature accent accessories (who can forget his oversized raffia bags, whimsical heels?).
Jacquemus’ steady progress has been marked by the introduction of current brand signifiers. The beginnings of the iconic white shirt dress were first seen with his pre-fall 2015 collection - though the past four years have seen major tweaks to the brand’s staple. Another house favourite, the Le Chiquito Bag has posed various version of itself since 2017 and most recently comes in a ridiculously minuscule size - so ridiculous that you're barely able to fit bobby pins in it. That’s exactly the sort of mischevious quality the French designer brings to the fashion world - the kind that you either love or love to hate.
Ten years on, this impish characteristic has only solidified into a strong visual representation of the sensual yet structured cornerstones of the brand -- making it an undeniable style name. And what better way to celebrate this milestone than with a co-ed show in Jacquemus’ hometown in Provence, France?
Set to take place on the 24 June, the showcase signifies some of the brand’s major successes - a secured spot at fashion week, a cult following and immense commercial success - coming full circle. It also sets the stage for Jacquemus to push the boundaries even further. While the future leaves plenty of room for a continuation the playful spirit and experimentation of the charming French designer, here’s a look at some of the iconic pieces that have transformed the house from boutique to earning an irrevocable spot in today’s modern-day fashion industry.
