Ah Lian Fashion Is Back And Here's Why We Are Obsessed With It

She has fun with fashion, and is sexy to the point that some might call her trashy. The initials for the local colloquial term to describe her are AL. Now, the look best associated with Paris Hilton in the 2000s is one of Resort 2018 and street style’s biggest influences. We break it down.

The Brands

It’s not just labels known for their body-conscious, street-meets-glamour aesthetic (cue Balmain and Versace) that are channelling echoes of Paris Hilton circa 2000 this Resort 2018. Even some of high fashion’s most experimental and eclectic are paying their tribute – and it’s not meant to be ironic.

The Original Icons

Paris Hilton

The ultimate AL in modern Western pop culture who popularised tracksuits, ironic slogan tees and caps (remember Von Dutch?) before Demna Gvasalia. Now, she’s enjoying a resurgence wearing pretty much the same things that she did during her early 2000s heyday.

Christina Aguilera

Before transforming into Xtina and going all Dirrty with leather-clad chaps and underboob-revealing tops in the early 2000s, the American songstress was already a pioneer of hair highlights. Age has not stopped her penchant for XS clothes. (P.S. Kylie Jenner is a fan.)

The New Icons

Chiara Ferragni

When not in fresh-off-the-runway looks given a trendy, street style spin, this fashion influencers’ fashion influencer flits between Cali society casual (midriff-baring top, track pants, sneakers) and skimpy outfits a la Paris Hilton (but more chic).

Anna Dello Russo

In the past year or so, we’ve noticed that this original street style peacock’s dresses have gotten tighter, with shorter hemlines plus more regular boob-baring. (At the same time, she’s been spotted out more with her mysterious businessman boyfriend Angelo Gioia.) Only keeps the cameras clicking more.

Caroline Vreeland

The fact that her great grandmother is the esteemed fashion editor Diana Vreeland has not stopped this leggy, voluptuous singer/model from wearing looks that accentuate her assets. The fashion crowd adores her all the same, thanks to a ’90s, alt culture-influenced style that lends plenty of character.

The Buys

The trick to making the look fashionable: You have to go all the way – from the head gear to the jewellery, to the clothes and shoes.
