Asics Drops A Kick-Ass Collaboration With 30 Regional Creatives

Hot off the heels of their diamond anniversary, the Japanese sneaker label taps on a collective of emerging artists across Southeast Asia for a collaboration like no other.

Asics has always been at the forefront of innovation. The sneaker and activewear brand is probably best known as quality shoemakers who have propelled their core Gel cushioning system and Flytefoam technologies in their comfortable and performance-enhancing designs – giving rise to the label's success among athletes and consumers alike.

This year, the brand is celebrating 30 years of its iconic Gel-Lyte III sneaker – the hallmark style designed by designer Shigeyuki Mitsui – and is giving the shoe new life. Available at Limited Edt. stores, you can get your hands on the new-gen sneakers ($159) which have now been a given a modern upgrade in two bold colourways of green and purple.

In addition to this, Asics pays homage to the raw talent and originality of Mitsui by roping in 30 emerging local creatives and artists across Southeast Asia – from a batik clothing designer to a graffiti artist – for a bumper collaboration. Each of them was presented with a white pair of Gel-Lyte III trainers, and challenged to put their own fresh reinterpretations on the shoes.
