The legendary Japanese label Onitsuka Tiger – maker of the cult, vintage-style MEXICO 66 sneakers – can be counted on for some of the coolest collaborations. To kick off its 75th anniversary celebrations this year, it's cosying up to another icon from home: the '50s-era anime Astro Boy. To kick off its 75th anniversary celebrations this year, Onitsuka Tiger – famed for its vintage-inflected sneakers that are as functional (remember Uma Thurman in Kill Bill?) as they are stylish – has teamed up with one of the most influential manga of all time: Astro Boy.

Their similarities run deep: One was behind the first made-in-Japan athletic shoes while the other was the country’s first full-length anime TV series. Meanwhile, Onitsuka Tiger's DENTIGRE PUFF BOOTS – distinguished by their voluminous outsoles that add not only extra cushioning, but also utilitarian cool – have been reinterpreted to pay homage to Astro Boy's famous red boots.
