Bottega Veneta’s Spring Summer 2027 Show Is A Breath Of Fresh Air
Bottega SS27 is all about flowy fabrics, artful hats, and of course, woven pieces – as presented at Milan Fashion Week.
By Pameyla Cambe,
How do you make leather feel light? Louise Trotter offered some answers at Bottega Veneta’s Spring Summer 2027 show at Milan Fashion Week. The presentation took place in a light-filled room, where guests like Jacob Elordi, Tyler, the Creator, Thanaerng and Riize’s Sungchan sat atop crushed white cardboard boxes created by the Berlin artist Illya Goldman Gubin. Elordi’s rumoured girlfriend, Kendall Jenner, closed the show. Still, the show didn’t really need all that star power – the airy clothes, the gorgeous leather bags and the crafty accessories that Trotter presented in her third collection for the Italian luxury house would have had people talking, anyway. Here’s what you need to know.

Entering flow state
Trotter, who hails from rainy England and is now based in Milan, was inspired by the transition between seasons that she experienced in the Italian city. She sees that transition as a period of possibility. “I wanted to capture that sense of lightness and optimism through movement and derobing,” says the designer. She did so with clothes that exuded a sense of ease: sheer silk and cotton shirts were worn open, tucked into loose pants; looped fringe skirts bounced as models walked; and tailored jackets were softened and relaxed, shedding the heft seen in Trotter’s previous Bottega Veneta collections. Incredibly, Trotter even managed to make the brand’s signature leather move as fluidly as silk. Strips of leather formed the swishy fringe seen on shirts and coats, or woven using the brand’s Intrecciato technique to create scarves that were tied, casually, around the waist.
Woven with wonder
Trotter explored the possibilities of Bottega Veneta’s Intrecciato technique in other unexpected ways. A blown-up version of the weave was used to construct an oversized, almost sculptural white shirt. Elsewhere, the subtle use of Intrecciato – like on the lapel of a linen jacket, or on the body of a leather trench coat – invited a closer look. Models even carried notebooks with woven leather sleeves, resembling newspapers. Such pieces demonstrated the Italian luxury brand’s expert craftsmanship. As the show notes read, “The more one delves into the house, the more attention moves to the telling detail, from what reveals itself immediately to what asks to be found.”
Florals for spring
Springtime flowers bloomed all throughout the Bottega Veneta collection in the craftiest of ways: they appeared as the motif on crochet jumpers and slip dresses; as the print on the trippy fringed skirts mentioned earlier; and as covetable accessories, including statement earrings, beaded boutonnières, and braided leather charms dangling from bags. On top of the neutrals and tomato red that Trotter favours in her Bottega Veneta collections, her latest offerings also came in the soft pastel hues of flowers, resulting in standouts like a violet blazer, a lilac skirt, a pair of jazz shoes in periwinkle pink. The message of the collection is clear: lighten up.
Raffia accessories
On top of leather and linen, Trotter introduced another natural element to her Bottega Veneta vocabulary this season: raffia. The textured material gave the collection a summery feel, and again emphasised the handiwork that lies at the heart of Bottega Veneta. Raffia was used on the collection’s covetable hats and bags—including one oversized woven shoulder bag with fringing that literally swept the floor.
Art in the form of hats
Trotter took us by surprise by playing around with an underrated but essential accessory: the hat. At the Bottega Veneta show, models donned all sorts of hats, from pointed, openwork styles to sculptural straw designs. The headgear added a dose of quirk to the elegant collection—and served as a stylish reminder to take sun protection seriously.
