The Tasteful Way Of Wearing The Bralette Trend
A pretty, lacy bralette can dress up an outfit without revealing too much skin.
By MAY SEAH,
Bralettes are still in, but unlike, say, off-shoulder tops or espadrilles, wearing a bralette as a fashion piece is not a bandwagon that everyone would jump on without hesitation. It is possible, though, to carry off the style without showing too much skin, compromising on support or looking like mutton dressed as lamb. Ms Kate Low, 32, founder of online intimates store Perk By Kate, addresses some common concerns and suggests how to make a pretty, lacy bralette a classy part of one's outfit.
I Don't Want To Reveal Too Much
Pair a camisole or V-neck T-shirt with an eyelash bralette. This provides a hint of eyelash (lace) at the neckline without showing too much elsewhere.
I'm Not That Confident About My Boobs
It is interesting to note that petite women think bralettes are only for fuller women, while fuller women think bralettes are only for petite women. Bralettes can actually fit any body shape - it all depends on the style. Women with fuller busts can look for pieces with plunge cups or all-around construction, which provide more support and coverage and prevent side spillage. Also, thicker straps offer better lift and support. Triangle cup styles are perfect for petite women, but may not work so well for fuller busts.
I Want To Reveal Only My Back
Plunge back tops are lovely with a T-back bralette or lacerback bralette (with lace in a racerback style). Those who prefer subtle detailing can also match a racerback tank top with a lacerback bralette for a hint of lace at the back.
I Don't Want To Look Like A 17-year-old Teenybopper
There are many designs and styles to choose from. Pick intimates that showcase a specific detail - for example, a sexy lace back, an interesting strap detail or a hardware detail. Go for exquisite lace designs (above). And black, midnight blue and charcoal grey are always safe colours. Another idea is to match a longline bralette (with material that extends below the bust) with a top that has larger armholes. For an edgier look, style a cropped bralette with a blazer and high-waisted pants.
I Don't Have Zero Percent Body Fat
No one does. But one does not have to adhere to a certain notion of beauty. Besides, styling with bralettes does not mean having perfect abs and wearing only crop bralettes. It's all about the comfort level.
