A new chapter begins at Chanel with Matthieu Blazy’s debut collection for the house this season, but his idea of romance remains true to Coco Chanel’s own. It lies in the everyday. It’s found in the practical and purposeful. It’s not so much about grand gestures as it is about freedom and the things that give us comfort. F ZINE teams up with Rebecca Toh – the acclaimed, dreamy‑eyed photographer who’s also behind the community library Casual Poet Library – to tell this tale of modern love.

ELSEWHERE, THE ALLUSION TO LOVE IS SUBTLER, WOVEN INTO THE QUOTIDIAN – IN PRAGMATIC MEN’S SUITS AND SHIRTS, FOR INSTANCE, WHICH COCO CHANEL NOT ONLY BORROWED FROM, BUT ALSO WORE HERSELF. SHE TOOK THEM FROM CAPEL’S WARDROBE BECAUSE THEY ALLOWED HER TO MOVE WITH EASE AND, ONE SUSPECTS, BECAUSE THEY LET HER FEEL CLOSE TO HIM. OR IN FRAYED TWEEDS AND THE 2.55 HANDBAG NOW RENDERED DELIBERATELY CRUSHED – THE LOOK OF HAVING BEEN LIVED IN, A SUGGESTION OF CONSTANT USE AND AN ATTACHMENT THAT TRANSCENDS TIME.
