Take Us To Coco Beach: Chanel Launches Its Second Beachwear Collection

When Karl Lagerfeld introduced his first Coco Beach de Chanel collection last year, it was meant to be an ultimate homage to Gabrielle Chanel's love for holidaying in some of her favourite summer vacation spots in Europe. For the rest of us, it was the perfect channel to embody that French chic beach wardrobe – you know swims shorts, Breton sweaters, and all.

For the second instalment of this capsule collection (and the Kaiser's last one before his passing), the look still keeps things chic with plenty of one-piece swimsuits and wetsuits for the water, and sophisticated draped dresses and espadrilles for your apres pool or beach activities. Launching on July 9 at the maison's boutique at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, the latest edition comes with a big kitschy cool twist thanks to a particular fabric for the ready-to-wear pieces.

Made of terry cloth – a nod to the way women wrap up post-swim – and in royal blue, coral or summer white, the flirty dresses and separates exude the same breezy glamour as the jet-setting beauties in Slim Aarons’ iconic photos. Each piece is embroidered with a gold-stitched logo patch that adds to the retro charm. Accessories to match include mule or slingback espadrilles upgraded in leather, a clutch and oversized beach bag, as well as bucket hats and bandanas in jersey or more terry cloth.  

Swimwear features heavily in the over-25-piece collection, and varies from triangle bikinis and sport top two-pieces, to classic one-piece suits and wetsuits. Made from technical jersey, they feature refined ornamentation that lends subtle opulence: a multi-coloured, trompe l’oeil sequinned print, or iridescent top stitching used to recreate the brand’s signature quilted pattern.
