Cos' Lunar New Year Capsule Collection Is A Modern Take On Chinese Tradition
The brand references traditional Chinese symbols for its Lunar New Year collection.
By Lucy Lauron,
Swedish label Cos is leaning big into Chinese culture for its Lunar New Year 2025 collection: at the heart of it is the Chinese knot, a symbolic motif that has more than a millennium's worth of history in the country and used to convey meaning, often associated with luck, prosperity, and protection.
Key to this collection are four repurposed leather bag charms, each blending modern design with traditional knots and handmade details. Each knot carries a unique meaning: the 'Cross' knot for good fortune, 'Peace' for harmony, 'Ice Blossom' for turning dreams into reality, and 'Double Ear' for love and unity.
Elsewhere, there’s also a spring-inspired ready-to-wear capsule with soft knits, tailoring, and accessories that really capture the essence of renewal and new beginnings.
At Cos this season, it's serving extra meaningful bag charms with historic meanings behind them.
The minimalist London-based brand has also teamed up with Chinese textile artist Amber Chen (co-founder of Singapore and Shanghai-based textile studio, Tanchen Studio), tapping on the artist to create a custom artwork in conjunction with this collection.
A Nanjing native, Amber Chen is the co-founder of Tanchen Studio, a textile studio that focuses on artisanal workmanship with an investigative approach. For this project with Cos, Chen has created a custom textile artwork that symbolises hope and good fortune for the year ahead.

The work is a beautiful textile hanging (pictured above) fashioned out of intricate hand-woven jacquards inspired by traditional Chinese techniques – the exclusive artwork will be displayed in stores across China, Singapore, and Malaysia.
