Since 2021, FEMALE has partnered with Lasalle College of the Arts on its Diploma in Creative Direction for Fashion programme annually, assigning a project to its third-year students to give them a taste of what content creation for a media brand calls for. Ahead of the final presentation from the latest cohort taking place at month’s end, we find out more about these aspiring image-makers and storytellers.

RAHMAT BIN ADNAN, 25

Angela Guo

STAR SIGN: Taurus

WHERE HE’S FROM: Singapore

INTERESTS: “Music, coffee, cooking, basketball, films and anime, photography, videography, writing poems and daydreaming”

HIS AMBITION: “I want to change lives through fashion and to create a community where I can empower young talents and help them achieve their best selves mentally and creatively. I’d also like to open a social enterprise business, helping the less fortunate and marginalised through the power of art and design.”

A VALUABLE LESSON HE HAS LEARNT FROM SCHOOL: “Rejection is part of the trajectory of correction and a connection towards another selection.”

SOMETHING INTERESTING ABOUT HIM: “I have an obsession with movie tickets and even record the name of who I had watched each film with on the respective ticket. I’ve not collected many in recent years, since tickets are now digital, which saddens me quite a bit, but whenever there’s a chance to get a physical ticket, I’d try my best to get one.”

EUGENIA WYNNE LIAN, 20

Angela Guo

STAR SIGN: Gemini

WHERE SHE’S FROM: Indonesia

INTERESTS: “I love dancing, thrifting and baking – though I think I enjoy the eating part of this more. I also play the piano and ukulele for fun.”

HER AMBITION: “I want to try out modelling and also explore what I love: creating fashion collections, making jewellery, doing nail art and travelling. I’m excited to see how these experiences shape my perspective.”

WHY SHE JOINED THE PROGRAMME: “I almost applied to be a dance major, but while researching my options, I realised that I was more interested in fashion. Joining this programme was a last‑minute decision, but I’m glad I took a chance because it has allowed me to learn and grow in ways I never expected.”

SOMETHING INTERESTING ABOUT HER: “I’m always curious and love trying out new things, even if I might not be great at them.”

ELMIRA HIZAM, 21

Angela Guo

STAR SIGN: Capricorn

WHERE SHE’S FROM: Singapore I

NTERESTS: “I love experimenting with materials and techniques for my jewellery brand FreeForm, and am passionate about styling and curating aesthetics that tell a story. I enjoy gardening and arranging bouquets as well. There’s something satisfying about creating balance and beauty, whether with jewellery design, fashion or florals.”

WHY SHE JOINED THE PROGRAMME: “I’ve always been fascinated with how fashion and visuals come together to tell a story … Creative direction gives me the freedom to explore that and Lasalle College of the Arts felt like an ideal place that would allow me to push my ideas further.”

STAR SIGN: Capricorn

WHERE SHE’S FROM: Vietnam

HER AMBITION: “I want to become a skilled artist and designer who not only excels in visual expression, but also conveys meaningful stories through my work. I also want to try to learn art therapy in the future.”

WHY SHE JOINED THE PROGRAMME: “I’ve always loved art and fashion since I was a kid, but what encouraged me to pursue fashion as a course of study was my stint in hospital. I’d like to use fashion to express the teenage years and dreams I had lost during that time, and to heal my inner child.”

A VALUABLE LESSON SHE HAS LEARNT FROM SCHOOL: “The most valuable lesson from attending this programme has been the discovery of the values that truly matter to me and the abilities that I had never previously realised I have.”

SOMETHING INTERESTING ABOUT HER: “I’m a high‑risk post‑cancer patient – nobody believes this when they look at me. I also love fine art and working; long breaks make me feel restless and bored. Also, if I’m into a song, I’ll keep playing it for months until I discover another one that I like.”
