Creative director Maximilian Davis heralds a new era at Ferragamo. Previously known as Salvatore Ferragmo, the Italian luxury label enters a new age with its newly-appointed steward and redesigned logo featuring a san serif font that’s impactful, refined and affirmative – all at once.

Davis launched his maiden collection in the palace of the former Archbishop’s Seminary in Milan during fashion week. The Spring/Summer 2023 men’s and women’s collections feature a colour palette extracted from American visual artist Rachel Harrison’s Sunset Series that’s rendered in degrade prints and hand-dyed knits.

The Spring/Summer 2023 men’s and women’s collections also pay homage to Davis’s Caribbean roots, where models walk along sandy pathways of the historic palazzo (rumoured to be the new Ferragamo HQ.) The colourway that Davis offers is reminiscent of island life. The dresses were draped, languid and skin-showing, while the tailoring was kept slim and cut close to the body. And a new Pantone red officially codifies the brand’s emblematic hue, seen throughout the collections.

The bags and other accessories call for the Y2K trend, which Davis and his generation continue to be fascinated by. One of the standout looks is a fiery red suede dress cut to perfection and paired with the tiniest wristlet and sandals that a lot of young girls would clamour for. There’s more to come from this young talent and we can’t wait to see it.

“The sand relates to Ferragamo, to Hollywood, to the ocean – and also to me, and to my own DNA,” says Davis in a press statement. “To what the sea means to Caribbean culture: a place where you can go to reflect and feel at one. I wanted to show that perspective, but now through the Ferragamo lens.”

Ahead, some of our favourite looks.
