Fashion Says Goodbye To Legendary Editor Franca Sozzani

Vogue Italia editor-in-chief Franca Sozzani passed away last night. She reigned for nearly 30 years over what is arguably the most boundary-pushing of all the Vogue titles, and the tributes have been pouring forth from fashion luminaries, celebrities and supermodels alike.

Anna Wintour

While the American Vogue head honcho doesn't officially have an Instagram account, one of fashion's most respected critics, Suzy Menkes, posted a picture of the two Vogue editrixes together. In Wintour's eulogy to Sozzani, she touched on how the latter taught her that friendship has to be earned.

But most poignantly, Wintour spoke of the last gift Sozzani gave her - a watch - that she promised to pass on to Sozzani's granddaughter. The children of both editors (Bee Shaffer and Francesco Carrozzini) are reportedly in a relationship as of press time, making the relationship between Wintour and Sozzani all the more intertwined.

Riccardo Tisci

Amongst the many fashion designers who poured forth tributes, Riccardo Tisci's was one of the most heartfelt and earnest. While we may never be privy to their relationship, we now at least know that Tisci and Sozzani had an annual Christmas dinner tradition.

Renowned photographer Mario Sorrenti illustrated a familiar story: many current big names in fashion got a leg-up in their individual careers from the famously risk-taking editor.

The It model of the original supermodels, Linda Evangelista kept it short but poignant.
