A First Look At Glenn Martens’s Upcoming Collaboration With H&M
It’s time for an fashion open house, courtesy of H&M and Glenn Martens.
There’s a new fashion collection by Glenn Martens, and it’s not with Diesel or Maison Margiela. On October 30, the Belgian designer’s collaboration with H&M is dropping, and it’s so Glenn Martens. Think trompe l’oiel denims, larger-than-life silhouettes for jeans, boots and coats, and plenty of wiring to make each piece your own.
The collection dips into H&M and Marten’s style archives in a way that puts both fashion powerhouses in true conversation with each other. H&M’s best-selling pieces (like shirts, bomber jackets and jeans), are reimagined with Marten’s signatures that play on trompe l’oiel and customisation. The collection is also a tribute to his journey as a designer and his work at the now-defunct Y/Project. Accessories (specifically: the boots) are nods to key archival designs.
The full house of looks. Spot any familiar faces? Specifically: British actors Joanna Lumley and Richard E. Grant? Martens has had a fascination with British humour for a while now. Naturally, the campaign (and casting) has several UK references.
During his 16 year career, Martens has transformed brands like Diesel, Maison Margiela, and Y/Project, having given each brand an experimental and witty edge. If your next question is: why is he collaborating with H&M? The short answer is: Martens has always been about democratising fashion.
H&M is going all out with a full range of looks that comprises of womenswear, menswear, unisex pieces, and accessories.
On the collection, he says: “I see this collection as a big family of garments, all of which have multiple purposes and personalities: like people, they grow and change each day. I am always interested in the clothes that we really live in: and the idea of archetypes and wardrobe staples was the starting point for this very special and joyful project with H&M.”
