Why You Need To Take A Closer Look At These Fall/Winter Runway Pieces

The recently-concluded season of virtual fashion presentations for Fall/Winter 2021 may have caused yearning. For in-person events, for real life spectacle, for the throng and the crowds.

A silver lining to digital shows you watch on-screen, though, is the opportunity for instant replay. That means, ironically, that you get more time to look and process what the designers are sending down the runway.

That’s given us the opportunity to zoom in a little, to get up close and personal with the little details. Things like a subtly monogrammed pair of stockings (Fendi) that you would miss with a model whizzing past you in person, or a fine lace pattern that you might not have recognised as actually being embroidery (Valentino) at first glance.
Ahead, our close ups of the best fashion moments from the Fall/Winter 2021 collections.
Sized to just about hold a lipstick – from Hermes too, if you will – Airpods, a credit card or two and your phone, this nifty little accessory means it when it says small leather good.
The delicate embroidery on this Valentino look is fine enough to look like lace at first glance.
In a collection inspired by the Winter Olympics, Thom Browne cast the legendary skier Lindsey Vonn to play model and muse. One of the many rich details in this collection: a jacket embroidered with name patches of past Winter Olympic host cities.
The moire-patterned regenerated fabric that Marine Serre uses in her collections was extended to a water bottle holder.
Kim Jones’ ready-to-wear debut delved into the signature codes of the house of Fendi. See the “Karligraphy” monogram created by Karl Lagerfeld in 1981 imprinted on the hosiery, and the F-shaped heels.
Praise be! Blumarine, as we know and love it, is back. Now under the creative direction of Nicola Brogano, the aesthetic is, in his own words: “more dirty, bitchier, sexier”. We’re digging the flouncy minis, flirty furs and shiny crystals.
Jeremy Scott turned to Old Hollywood, turning out arch glamour in colour and silhouette. Look closer, though, and you’ll see Moschino and Scott’s cheeky wink in the bag, shoe and peace sign charms.
At Lanvin, it was all about glamour! Fabulousness! Bourgeois! You got the sense of it right away on this embroidered satin train.
