The Jean Paul Gaultier X Lotta Volkova Drop Is A '90s Fashion Dream Come True
The newest JPG drop is helmed by none other than superstar stylist Lotta Volkova.
Jean Paul Gaultier has been basking in renewed attention over the past couple of years, as celebrities like Bella Hadid, FKA Twigs and Cardi B have all taken to showing off their vintage JPG swag – '90s finds from the couturier's extensive archives (his career spanned 50 years) being a particularly sought-after commodity.
Gaultier famously paused his ready-to-wear (RTW) collection in 2015 to focus on the couture side of the business but made a return to RTW last May with a rotating guest-designer strategy that doesn't follow the seasonal calendar.
The witty JPG X Lotta Volkova campaign included the latter's poodle, Dimitri.
The latest RTW collection is helmed by superstar stylist Lotta Volkova, whose subversive influence has been inescapable since she burst onto the fashion scene in the mid-2010s with the rise of Vetements (she's Demna's stylist and consultant).
Designed in collaboration with the fashion house, it sees classics of the JPG lexicon such as corseted lingerie, conical breasts, de-structured tailoring, trompe-l’oeil prints, babydoll dresses and ultra-flowy knitwear contemporised through Volkova's signature subculture-blending aesthetic – take for example for how prim court pumps have been transformed to sport four heels each (all 3D printed).
