JENNIE, Missy Elliott and More Front Adidas Superstar Revival
Icons from different generations including basketball, skateboarding and entertainment celebrate the legacy of its iconic adidas Superstar sneaker.
By Reta Lee CW,
adidas just dropped a whole vibe with their new “Superstar, The Original” campaign, and honestly, it’s a total flex. The Superstar sneaker isn’t just some kicks; it’s a legit icon that’s been doing its thing since way back, crossing over from the basketball court to the street and basically everywhere in between. Every generation has co-signed it, making it the one true original that stays lit.
The Campaign is Giving Main Character Energy
Snakes On A Plane actor Samuel L. Jackson narrates adidas’ latest campaign ad
This time around, adidas is leaning all the way into the Superstar’s legacy with a campaign that’s both a throwback and a look forward. They’re calling it “Superstar, The Original” and it’s a whole mood. The visuals? We’re talking dramatic, high-contrast black and white, giving off major vintage feels while still feeling fresh. It’s like a living stage for the original black-and-white colorway to shine and prove why it’s still that girl.
Visionary director Thibaut Grevet, whose work is literally dream-like, is behind the camera. He brought together a squad of cultural heavyweights who are all about being authentic and breaking barriers. We’re talking people who aren’t just following trends—they’re setting them.
And get this—the legend himself, Samuel L. Jackson, is narrating the whole thing. His voice is iconic, and it ties together a cast of originals across different generations:
“Work It” singer Missy Elliott acts in the campaign ad
Missy Elliott: The GOAT producer and songwriter.
Mark Gonzales: A skateboarding legend.
Anthony Edwards: The NBA’s next big thing.
GloRilla: Memphis’s multi-platinum rap powerhouse.
Teezo Touchdown: The singer-songwriter who’s pushing boundaries.
JENNIE: A global music icon.
Gabbriette: The model and actress who’s a true boundary-pusher.

According to Annie Barrett, the VP of Marketing at adidas Originals, the Superstar is all about being a symbol of originality and sparking cultural change. It’s for the people who don’t wait for permission to be leaders. This campaign isn’t about looking back; it’s about hyping up the next generation of icons who are building what’s next, no cap.
The campaign is dropping in two parts:
“Pyramids”: A teaser where Samuel L. Jackson compares the lasting impact of ancient monuments to the Superstar’s cultural staying power. It’s deep, y’all
“Clocks”: The main event, a hero film that brings the entire star-studded cast together for one epic statement.
Alongside the classic Superstar kicks, adidas is also bringing back the legendary Firebird Tracksuit, which has been a staple since ‘67. It’s clear they’re celebrating not just a shoe, but a whole era of creative expression that’s still influencing everything today.
So, what’s your favorite part about the adidas Superstar legacy? The classic kicks, the iconic tracksuit, or the new campaign?
