Katseye-Inspired Outfits That Are Freaking Gnarly (And Totally Worth Stealing)
Copping these looks? Absolutely gnarly.
By Lucy Lauron,
So, how many listens did it take for you to get into Katseye’s latest track?
Nearly a year after their debut, fifth-gen girl group Katseye made their much-hyped comeback on April 30 with Gnarly – a track that’s chaotic, loud, totally zany… and currently splitting the internet down the middle. Is it brilliantly unhinged, or just plain unlistenable? Whichever camp you fall into, one thing’s clear: Katseye has everyone talking. And clicking replay.
Sonically, Gnarly swings the hyperpop pendulum right back into the mainstream – a big win in this post-Brat era. Even if it’s not quite your flavour (though, respectfully, that’s a loss on your part), their live stages have been sensational. And the styling? Utterly unmissable. Think Gen Z maximalism on steroids: micro skirts, clashing prints, wild textures. It’s bold. It’s messy. It’s – well – gnarly.
Which begs the question: what does gnarly even mean? According to the Oxford English Dictionary, it describes something extreme, dangerous, and exciting. So yes, a fitting title – and a taste of what’s to come. Katseye’s upcoming EP Beautiful Chaos drops June 27, and if Gnarly is anything to go by, it’s about to be a no-filter hyperpop ride. We’ll be seated.
For all the Eyekons out there itching to channel the kitschy energy of Gnarly, here’s how to dress like you just walked off their set – outfits guaranteed to make people look twice (and then scroll to find where you got it).
Dolce & Gabbana x Kim Kardashian satin shrug, $1,000, www.farfetch.com
First rule of chaotic Gen Z style? Layer like your life depends on it. This satin shrug may look simple, but it’s the ultimate Y2K base layer. Clash it with bold textures – think mesh, faux fur, or denim – for that perfectly kitschy edge.
Blumarine polyester and elastane mesh top with crystal embellishments, $470, www.farfetch.com
Speaking of layering – nothing says ‘look at me’ like a mesh top. This one from Blumarine balances sugar and spice with butterfly-shaped embellishments that scream Y2K rebellion. Sweet? Yes. Innocent? Not quite.

Libra polyester and rayon corset top, $440, www.miaou.com
Straight from the music video – seriously, Manon wore it in the teaser – this Miaou top serves girly softness with serious styling potential. Toughen it up with leather or chunky boots for that perfect sugar-meets-spice moment.
Poplin tube top, $3,100, Miu Miu
Channel Katseye’s signature chaos with Miu Miu’s deconstructed tube top – a mashup of office siren and Y2K rebel. It’s peak Gen Z: genre-bending, rule-breaking, and made for a main-character moment.
GCDC cotton crochet bikini top, $225, www.farfetch.com
Wear it solo or layer it over mesh – this GCDS bikini top nails Gnarly’s vibe: unapologetically cutesy with a spunky, no-rules edge.
Cassidy nylon mini skort with metal embellishments, US$140 (S$181), www.bupbes.com
If you’re chasing fierce, this Bupbes micro-skort is the move. Pleats? Check. Grommets? Yes. It’s a skort? Game over. Peak chaotic chic – Katseye would approve.
O-Lyac polyamide-nylon and spandex midi skort, $1,015, Diesel
In true Gnarly fashion, this Diesel midi skort (if you can even call it that) delivers the kind of chaotic clash we live for. Neon? Check. Mesh panel? Check. A trompe l’oeil print peeking through? Grunge meets maximalism in the best possible way – the exact kind of fashion chaos Katseye would thrive in.
Leather and viscose mini shorts, $199, H&M
If you’ve been clocking the music video, live stages, and behind-the-scenes fits, one thing’s clear: statement booty shorts are non-negotiable.
Recycled polyester mesh tights, $460, www.marineserre.com
Go big or go home – these purple sheer tights from Marine Serre are gaudy, loud, and dripping with those iconic crescent moons. Perfect for making a statement without saying a word.
Astro 18K yellow gold-plated brass earrings, $326, www.simuero.com
And of course, accessories are a must. What better than a statement earring that’s big, bold, and hefty (13.5 grams, to be exact) with a distorted celestial shape? It’s the kind of earring that demands attention and possibly a chiropractor.
Dilara leather belt, $179, www.bellethelabel.com
Another gem from the MV – Yoonchae’s chunky belt is the perfect piece to tie the whole look together. Bold, sleek, and totally unmissable.
McQueen leather belt, $3,124, www.farfetch.com
Not into chunky belts? This sleek one from McQueen is shaping up to be the perfect alternative (pun intended).
Leather sneakers, $800, Acne Studios
This year is officially the year of hybrid shoes, and these ballet sneakers from Acne Studios are leading the charge. With a ballet flat silhouette, leather and denim-inspired print, front and heel laces, and delicate bows, they’re the perfect blend of elegance and edge – definitely deserving of a spot on this list.
Gaia shearling and nylon boots, $3,830, Moncler
Could it even be a Katseye-inspired look without some chunky, fluffy boots? Sure, they’re made for the winter, but honestly, nothing’s gnarlier than rocking winter accessories in the middle of summer.
