At Loewe, An Idyllic Collection Perfect For The Holidays

Since Jonathan Anderson took the helm at Loewe, we've come to expect a special capsule collection every holiday season that typically spotlights an artist.

The subject of this year's collection is the American artist Ken Price, whose abstract, small-scale sculptures were beloved for their psychedelic colours and biomorphic forms that were both earthy and vaguely carnal.

The late Price's works were known to blur "the distinction between art and craft" as the New York Times put it – much like Anderson himself. "I have always been drawn to artists whose practices expand, push and challenge conventions," says the designer.  

For this Loewe collection, Anderson was inspired by a series of hand-painted ceramic plates Price made in the '80s for La Palme restaurant, in Newport Beach.

These were re-interpreted as joyous, bucolic prints, intarsia and leather marquetry that appear on the maison's signature bags, accessories and apparel. They depict tranquil landscapes we'd love to be transported to – only given a Pop Art-esque treatment, thanks to the bright primary colours used.

If prints aren't really your thing, however, Loewe's also dropping more minimal fare in the form of exquisite leather basket bags from their Fringes series. All in all, this collection's sheer exuberance proves to be quite the colourful antidote and nice end to a year filled with dreariness.
