Louis Vuitton Just Dropped Their First Aluminium Suitcase
Celebrating ten years of collaboration, Louis Vuitton and industrial designer Marc Newson reimagine an old icon with the new Horizon Aluminium – the world’s first rivet-free aluminium luggage.
When renowned industrial designer Marc Newson first conceived the iconic Horizon luggage for Louis Vuitton back in 2016, his goal was nothing short of ambitious: to create a revolutionary suitcase that would serve 21st-century travellers just as Louis Vuitton’s legendary trunks once served explorers back then.
Now, celebrating the 10th anniversary of their partnership, Louis Vuitton and Marc Newson have once again teamed up to elevate the Horizon one step further, with the new Horizon Aluminium – the House’s first ever aluminium suitcase.

Stripped of excess and refined to its simplest form, this is not just a lightweight travel companion – it’s a reinvention of the legendary aluminium trunks that the House designed at the end of the 19th century, crafted for the modern traveller.
Aluminium is, after all, the quintessential modern material. Durable, infinitely recyclable, and a staple material in many of Newson’s works – it perfectly embodies Louis Vuitton’s Art of Travel by blending luxury, functionality, and timeless elegance.
Despite its sleek, minimalist exterior, the Horizon Aluminium luggage has an intricately complex design engineering process. The suitcase’s shell is crafted through a series of advanced stamping and laser-cutting processes, allowing the aluminium sheets to be shaped while maintaining the Horizon’s signature rounded curves. Instead of the typical grooves found on most metal suitcases, the House’s iconic Monogram motif is embossed directly into the aluminium surface.
The innovation doesn’t stop there. Rather than traditional rivets, an ultra-thin frame system is attached to the shell crafted from a single-piece, full-depth 3D mould. Bulky external hinges have been eliminated completely, in favour of concealed mechanisms tucked inside that don’t eat into your packing space.
And speaking of packing space, Horizon Aluminium’s got a lot of it. The exterior trolley system is positioned outside the case, which means the interior stays completely uncluttered. With a perfectly flat main compartment and a zipped upper section, the suitcase offers maximum capacity for all your travel needs.
Every tactile touchpoint has been carefully considered. Natural cowhide leather wraps the corners and handles, adding a touch of warmth and refinement against the cool metal. From its TSA-certified locks and extra-wide telescopic handle, to its shock-absorbing wheels that effortlessly glide without a squeak, no detail has been overlooked.
And for those who need a little extra storage, the Horizon Aluminium range includes a matching Vanity Case, featuring the same rivet-free, embossed aluminium designs. Complete with a removable central divider and an elastic strap that secures over the suitcase’s handle, it’s the perfect carry-on baggage to accompany you on your flights.
