Moncler Has Revealed All Of The Jackets In Its Star-Studded Collaboration
The winterwear specialist launches the Moncler Maya 70 Collaborations: a series of seven reinterpretations of the iconic Maya jacket by seven designers that has been dropping weekly since Oct 15.
The French-born pioneer in luxurious, fashion-forward winter wear that’s also reliable enough for Olympic athletes knows it’s a big deal to become a septuagenarian. Cue its staging of this spectacle in the historic Piazza del Duomo during Milan Fashion Week in September, which involved 1952 dancers, musicians, choir members and models all dressed in its signature Maya jacket (the number references the year Moncler was founded). And that was only the start of its festivities.

Besides releasing a special edition of the Maya with a commemorative logo, seven other interpretations of this quilted cover-up – each created by a designer close to the house – started dropping in selected stores recently. “How do you define the last 70 years? Getting to design the iconic Maya jacket with my own twist was a total honour. I knew from the beginning I wanted it to be all rubber,”
“I imagined a comfortable, relaxed, and nonchalant jacket in nylon laque. The major challenge was the padded squares, profiled in the same fabric, joined together with manually applied fabric knots. I am fascinated by sport outerwear opportunities: within this frame, concrete benefits and stylish gems come together."
“The first thing that came in mind were feathers, a common denominator of my aesthetic and the essence of Moncler. I don’t see them as decoration, rather as a material that blurs the space around them. I took the Maya and I stretched it and I shrinked it."
“I applied the architecturally quilted shoulders that I introduced in my men's Fall/Winter 2021 collection called Gethsemane. It was one of the four shows I did on Venice’s Lido beach in Italy during the Covid lockdowns. We refer to them as our girdered shoulders – symbolically meant to support the weight of contemporary adversities."
