This Onitsuka Tiger Collaboration Has A Strong Vintage Appeal
The Japanese sneaker label teams up with French Bikini sous la Puie for a retro chic outing.
By Nicole FONG,
What: Onitsuka Tiger has partnered with French illustrator Caroline Bourles – popularly known as Bikini sous la Puie – for a new sneaker pack called the History Graphic. This series features five of the brand's popular silhouettes – Lawnship 3.0, Lawnship PS, Lawnship TS, GSM and Tiger Corsair – dressed up in the illustrator's retro-inspired drawings of tigers, red-suited men and multi-coloured stripes which remind us of those Eric Carle's children's books illustrations.
Why know it: While sneakers featuring graphics and prints aren't new, Bikini sous la Puie's small-sized illustrations are more kitschy-cute than in-your-face statement – which make these versatile options for pairing with anything from summer dresses to jeans. Plus, that nod to the Tokyo 1964 Olympics in the graphics – the red-suited fellas are dressed in outfits donned by the Japanese team and the colourful stripes represent the various national flags – is a fitting tribute to Tokyo which would have hosted the Games in July this year had it not been for the Covid-19 crisis.
Where to get: The History Graphic pack is now available online. Prices range from $89 to $169.
