FEMALE People Cam: Pink Dot Edition

Meet the stylish people spotted at this year's Pink Dot

On Saturday, July 29, they wore pink for the 16th edition of the annual pride rally, Pink Dot. This year's event wrapped up a packed Pride Month calendar with the theme "No One Left Behind." Despite the muddy grounds of Hong Lim Park, the crowd turned out in full force. Continuing our tradition since 2022, our team was on the ground to capture the spirit and style of the attendees. Dive in for more details.

This year's Pink Dot entrance was extra – and naturally, fabulously pink.

Name: Gladys Pang

Age: 19

Occupation:  Architectural technology and building services student

Her fit: “My pink top is from Two Worlds at Golden Landmark. My corset is from a friend, and my skirt is by Red Queen's Black Legion, bought from @yardsaletf on Instagram. I'm wearing stockings from Let Me See on Taobao, and shoes from New Rocks. My choker is from Taobao, and my food-themed rings are from Bandai gashapon machines. My other ring is from Time Will Tell on Taobao. My bracelets are from Taobao, Katong Flea Market, and a souvenir from China, and my necklace is a Vivienne Westwood knockoff from Taobao. My earrings are also from Taobao.”

The inspiration behind her outfit: “The main inspiration behind this outfit is Nana Osaki from the manga series Nana, but in pink for Pink Dot!”

Her personal style: “My style is a mix of Japanese-alt, usually leaning towards Japanese-punk with brands like Algonquins, H.Naoto, Ozz Croce, and Sexpot Revenge.”

Her favourite way of accessorising her outfit:“I like to 'fill in the blanks' with my outfits. If I'm just wearing a top and a short skirt, I'll add a corset. If my top is too plain, I'll wear stockings to cover bare skin.”

His fit: “I'm wearing a fur vest from a shop in Wufenpu, Taiwan. My top and shoes are from Shein, my skirt is thrifted, and my bag is from The Dream Vault. All my other accessories are from Shopee.”

The inspiration behind his outfit: “I wanted an outfit that truly represented me for this celebration of identity. My inspiration was a mix of the trans flag, with a blend of trashy Y2K and emo styles. I also drew inspiration from Aliyah’s Interlude’s fashion.”

His favourite way to accessorise an outfit: "I enjoy experimenting with accessories to match the vibe, colour palette, or shape I'm aiming for. Necklaces and studded belts are my go-tos to complement different parts of my outfit and bring the whole look together."

His queer icon: "My queer icon is Mother Monster herself, Lady Gaga. She practically raised me."

Age: 23

Occupation: Veterinary assistant

His fit: “My outfit includes a top with sheer bell sleeves, a pink skirt, and socks from Shein, perfect for my budget. I've paired them with a secondhand petticoat and my trusty old work Crocs. My rainbow bag, a secondhand find from Unif via Carousell, adds flair. I've also crafted all my accessories, from necklaces to earrings.”

The inspiration behind his outfit: “I typically attend Pink Dot each year dressed in the colours of the trans flag: pastel blue, pink, and white. This year, I drew inspiration from those colours again! Creating this clowncore outfit, I challenged myself to craft a frilled collar, something new for me. I enjoy experimenting with my outfit ideas, combining pieces to see what clicks.”

His favourite way of accessorising an outfit: "I often create my own accessories or support small local creators. If I see something online and have the materials, I'll make it myself. I enjoy being hands-on with my craft, especially making jewellery. I consider the outfit's vibe when choosing accessories. I have darker, gothic necklaces and whimsical, colourful handmade pieces."

His current fashion obsession: "I'm currently obsessed with Magical Girls from one of my favourite anime series, Puella Magi Madoka Magica. I plan to rewatch it when I have free time. I love the concept of young girls transforming into their ideal selves to help others alongside their friends."

Age: 25

Occupation: Model

His fit:"I'm wearing a pink mesh workout top from Salvation Army underneath an outer corset top from Urban Revivo's women's section. My jorts are thrifted from Stakeout. I found my Rick Owens-inspired shoes on Carousell, and my Sting Sunglasses are from a store in Peninsula Plaza."

The inspiration behind his outfit: "I aimed for a vibe that blends pride with a daytime techno rave feel. Since I don't have many pink pieces, I decided to wear them all together."

His personal style: "My everyday style usually revolves around activewear, like compression tops or tank tops. They're functional yet stylish. For nights out or events, I prefer a tighter fit that's trendy but tasteful. Overall, my style is fun and aims to be visually engaging without being overbearing."

His fashion icon: "I find endless inspiration from hot brands like Versace, Saint Laurent, and Dolce & Gabbana. Julia Fox is my fashion icon – she's bold and fabulous and knows how to rock it. Locally, Erwin Hastings deserves a shoutout for his incredible style."

Her fit: "My dress is from Guess, borrowed from my mother's wardrobe. I got my boots and tights from Taobao, and my faux leather band from Shopee. My pink necklace is from Denjilia.co on Telegram, and my black necklace is from Chinatown."

The inspiration behind her outfit: "I didn't base this outfit on anything specific; I just knew I needed something pink for Pink Dot. When I chose this dress (from my mother's wardrobe, naturally), I noticed its grungy details, which inspired me to pair it with other edgy pieces."

How she'd describe her look: "I'd call this look 'Y2K grunge,' inspired by hot girls on Pinterest—props to them for the inspiration."

"Her favorite way of accessorising: "Honestly, I try anything that vibes well or aesthetically pairs with my outfit. When an accessory clicks, I commit to its style and colour palette. It's about coherence and satisfaction."

Occupation: Psychology Master graduate

His fit:"My vest from Acne Studios, and my trousers from a Chinese online store. My hoodie is from Balenciaga, my shoes are from Louis Vuitton, and my socks are from a store in Harajuku, Tokyo.”

The inspiration behind his outfit: "Truthfully, I prefer simple colours like black, white, and grey, and I usually opt for comfy clothes like a T-shirt, hoodie, and joggers combo. But for this outing, I wanted to dress more uniquely, so I pulled out some favourite high-fashion pieces. Given Singapore's heat, I swapped my joggers for trousers with an interesting cut that revealed some skin and showcased my socks—I love showing off cute or interesting socks, and my chunky Mary Janes were perfect for that 'holes in my trousers' look. I draped my hoodie across my torso to reveal my tattoos and added a vest, a nod to my London days where it's cooler. I always like to have one standout piece, and for Pink Dot, I chose a pink cowboy hat."

His personal style:"My personal style is casual and comfortable, featuring plain colours with one or two statement pieces and a touch of subtle sophistication."

His current fashion obsession:"This isn't a fashion obsession, but I'm currently obsessed with my puppy and can't wait to go back home to London to see her."

Name: Rain Yong

Age: 23

Occupation: Tattoo artist

Her fit: "My top is a thrifted piece borrowed from a friend, and my dress is also thrifted from Axes Femme. I'm wearing boots from Shopee that I repurposed from a cosplay outfit. My necklace is from @jewelsbymissa, and my bracelets are from various shops like @eatmynoods, @kopi.toast, and a friendship bracelet from Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour concert. My rings are assorted from Shopee, small stores in China, and Curbside Crafters. Hair clips are from @toastytowns on Instagram and The Green Party."

The inspiration behind her outfit: "I'm not following a specific inspiration, but I love ruffles, lace, and layering, which inspired my look. Borrowing the top from my friend, I paired it with a fluffy dress under a petticoat for an extra 'floofy' and 'fairy-core' vibe. It feels perfect for this occasion."

Her personal style: "I'd describe my personal style as a relaxed fairy-core with a hint of romantic goth. Singapore's weather makes it challenging to wear anything that fully covers my arms, so I opt for long skirts or dresses that fit the vibe."

Her fashion icon:"Instead of having just one fashion icon, I draw inspiration from a variety of sources and characters! If I had to name a few human inspirations, it would be somewhere between Annalyse (@ageminifairy on TikTok) or Christian (@mossy_socks on TikTok). I'm drawn to fantasy elements because they're so much fun."

Their outfit:"Nearly everything was thrifted! The top from Bangkok, pants, and boots are all thrifted finds. My Cinnamoroll bag is from Sanrio. As for accessories, the collar is from Daiso, and the chains and belt are from AliExpress."

The inspiration behind their outfit: "I love dressing like a video game character, wearing small, colourful clothes with coordinated accessories."

Their personal style: "I describe my personal style as Kawaii Grunge. I enjoy blending grunge with J-fashion elements in my outfits. I punk up cute looks with spiked chokers, chains, safety pins, grunge makeup, and adorable accessories. My hairstyle is often inspired by anime characters, and I favor asymmetry in my overall look."

Their queer icon: "My queer icons are Rina Sawayama and Troye Sivan. Their music resonates with me for how they express queer love and personal journeys in their songs. I admire Rina's courage in self-representation and Troye's heartfelt expressions of love."

His outfit: "My pink top is from Urban Revivo, pants from Mango's women's section, and the inner top from Iora. I'm wearing Onitsuka Tiger shoes and carrying a Muji bag."

The inspiration behind his outfit: "My outfit is inspired by colour blocking. I enjoy having large areas of my body in one solid colour – it makes me feel like living wallpaper, which I love."

His personal style: "My style is relaxed and simple. I prefer clothing that's straightforward and matches my mood."

His favourite way to accessorise an outfit: "I don't accessorise often, but I do like statement pieces like handmade necklaces or pins and brooches, though I tend to misplace them."

Name: Laura Yohannan

Age: 23

Occupation: Student

Her fit: "The top I'm wearing is second-hand from a friend, and my skirt is thrifted from Hammock Market. I'm wearing Charles & Keith shoes and Shopee socks. My bag was purchased online. As for accessories, my necklace is from @cctaffy on Instagram, and my earrings and bracelets are from various small businesses. My rings include a strawberry ring from @toastytowns and a frog ring from @sweaty_frog, both on Instagram."

The inspiration behind her outfit: "I didn't have a specific inspiration for my outfit, but I focused on bringing out everything pink that I had. After some trial and error, I settled on an outfit that was completely pink."

Her personal style: "My personal style varies, but tends towards feminine and 'cutesy' like my Pink Dot outfit. I also enjoy cooler fits from time to time, so my style doesn't fit into a specific label—it varies a lot. One consistent element in my outfits, though, is lots of accessories: necklaces, bracelets, hair accessories, rings – everything!"

Her queer icon: "Peach PRC! I adore her music and style; I wish I had her entire wardrobe. Another queer icon of mine is Chappell Roan! I'm hoping and praying she does a tour in Singapore soon."

Name: Ari Tang

Age: 32

Occupation: Customs broker

His fit: "I got my top from an Instagram ad called Usyaboys, pants from a Malaysian store called Behati, shoes from Fila, and my choker from Killstar."

The inspiration behind his outfit: "I just picked out everything pink from my wardrobe. Initially, I wasn't planning to go to Pink Dot because none of my friends are Singaporean or PR, meaning I'd be alone there. However, at the last minute, my friends said they would wait outside, so I threw together whatever I could find."

His personal style: "I'd describe it as soft goth. I aim for a strong gothic look, but I've toned it down a lot due to Singapore's weather. I still incorporate gothic elements like frills to capture a vampire goth aesthetic."

His current fashion obsession: "Lately, I've been drawn to traditional outfits like the Indian kurta and mundu, and Chinese cheongsam. One store I like for modernised traditional wear is Behati, a Malaysian label. While I don't wear them daily, I always feel great when I do."

Name: Bettina Sim

Age: 27

Occupation: Art teacher

Her fit: "For this outfit, the dress was custom-made by small business owner Louise Devlin. The shoes are from Lamoda, and I handmade the necklace myself. I occasionally make accessories for @Wisteriathings on Instagram!"

The inspiration behind her outfit: "My outfit was inspired by Ariana Grande's Sweetener era, when she wore babydoll dresses."

Her personal style: "I would describe my style as a walking Bratz doll, specifically from their ‘Fairy Pixiez’ lineup. I like to look tiny on top and heavy on the bottom, so chunky platforms are a staple! I also enjoy whimsical elements like florals and butterflies, with a touch of femininity through tight skirts."

Her queer icon: "Elliot Page. I've loved Elliot since his days as Ellen Page, especially as Shadowcat in the X-Men franchise. Watching him grow in his career and through his journey as a trans person has been heartwarming. We also share the same birthday – Pisces things! Another queer icon of mine is Lady Gaga. From day one, she has never been confined to just one thing. She was ahead of her time, and everyone else is just catching up. Despite criticism about her music and style, she never changed who she was, and I adore that."

Age: 17

Occupation: Student

Their fit: "My dress is thrifted from Lucky Plaza. The pearl top and white pants are from Shopee. My shoes are from Converse."

The inspiration behind their outfit: "I had no specific inspiration; it was a spur-of-the-moment decision. The dress gave me Disney princess vibes, so I went with that vision for Pink Dot."

Their personal style: "I have a variety of aesthetics, but I like to stick to vintage glam, coquette, Victorian, and Victorian goth. I would consider my style a mix of these."

Their queer icon: "Chappell Roan is definitely one of my queer icons. Her songs often touch on same-sex love, and her avant-garde outfits are inspired by gay ballroom culture, which I love. Another icon is Ethel Cain, whose songs include religious imagery that resonates with me, given my own distance from religion. Ethel is trans, and her suburban goth and country aesthetic inspires me. Lastly, I can't forget Lady Gaga, the ultimate queer icon who started the whole genre of gay-pop."

Name: Teo Yew Kee (prefers to go by Key)

Age: 17

Occupation: Media, arts and design student

Their fit: "My top is from Fuso, and my vest is from Daisy by Vior. I'm wearing black tights and a pencil skirt, both hand-me-downs. My backpack is from Benetton, and my shoes are Where’s Wally Vans sneakers. My belts are either hand-me-downs or second-hand from Stakeout. My beanie is a crocheted cat beanie decorated with pins. My necklaces are handmade or hand-me-downs, and my bracelets are friendship bracelets gifted at concerts."

The inspiration behind their outfit: "My outfit was inspired by the colour scheme of the trans flag, preppy or “soft” styles, and kawaii/decora fashion. I embrace the maximalist nature of kawaii culture by wearing as many accessories as possible and aspire to incorporate even more as I grow in my fashion journey. This year, the trend of “styling” versus “wearing” has gained relevance, and I try to implement layering and style pieces of clothing creatively."

Their personal style: "My personal style is experimental. I don't follow a specific style, but most of my outfits fall between grunge and soft. I enjoy dressing cute or using layers and patterns to create a unique look. One consistent element is my trans cat beanie, along with at least two necklaces and layering different pieces. My style is unique because I'm always trying to push the boundaries and do more."

Their current fashion obsession: "I'm currently obsessed with gothic and emo clothing and their cultures. I've loved the unique style of emo, especially during the Y2K era, with its bright colours mixed with plaid and lots of black clothing. The funky hairstyles and bold fashion choices were captivating. Growing up as an emo kid, listening to a lot of emo bands, I'm thrilled to see the resurgence of Y2K and older emo styles being normalized. I never really had the chance to dress emo growing up, but I plan to in the future. I love gothic styles for their powerful and enchanting look. I admire many gothic content creators and the values of gothic culture. I also look up to my friends who dress goth and hope to emulate that style one day."

The inspiration behind her outfit: "I feel like I dressed down this year as compared to other years since I came from work, but like always, I'm trying to channel Elle Woods and Sharpay Evans."

Her personal style: "I would describe my personal style as a feral pastel fairy princess. I mostly wear pink, but I also do lots of pastel rainbow looks. I try to incorporate pansexual colours into my style because pink, yellow, and blue together are one of my favourite colour combinations."

Her queer icon: "It would probably be Garnet from Steven Universe. Her existence as the physical manifestation of Ruby and Sapphire's love is beautiful. In real life, it would have to be Peach PRC. She's gorgeous, I adore her aesthetic, and I relate to how candid she is about her mental health struggles."
