5 Things We'll Miss About Riccardo Tisci At Givenchy
Italian designer Riccardo Tisci spent 12 years at French luxury brand Givenchy. Here, five things we'll remember him best for.
By SOFIA KIM,
#1: His diverse model cast
Tisci's penchant for casting a diverse range of models was evident throughout his time at Givenchy. He was one of the first designers to cast a transgender model, Leandra Medeiros Cerezo (also known as Lea T) for Givenchy's Fall/Winter 2010 campaign, and most recently appeared in the Spring/Summer 2017 campaign. Also on his list of democratic muses: Albino model Stephen Thompson and Ethiopian stunner Liya Kebede.
#2: His Givenchy gang
Amongst Tisci's favourite faces: Supermodels the likes of Naomi Campbell, Joan Smalls and Mariacarla Boscono. Newer members such as Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid have also joined this eclectic group of models.
#3: His Nike footwear collaborations
One of the most sought-after collaborations in 2014 was the luxury fashion brand's partnership with German sportswear giant Nike. The designer's interpretation of the Nike Air Force 1s helped to push athleisure as fashion, and he continued to lend his creative direction to other shoe styles, including the Dunk and Air Zoom Legend, and an entire workout wear collection. His latest Dunk sneaker style, NikeLab Dunk Lux Chukka, will launch on February 10 (as at press time).
#4: His signature dark, playful style
Under Tisci's reign, Givenchy moved from focusing on '80s glamour to offering gothic-tinged streetwear separates, a move that proved lucrative for the brand. Motifs such as the rottweiler t-shirt from Fall/Winter 2011, as well as his suggestive collages of Bambi in Fall/Winter 2013, became some of the brand's biggest cult hits.
#5: His artistic pursuits
Amongst the list of talents he has worked with: New York-based portrait painter Kehinde Wiley, who asked Tisci to create couture dresses for his 2012 series "An Economy Of Grace", which showcased African-American women of different ages and races in poses inspired by works in the Louvre; and Serbian performance artist Marina Abramovic, who co-art directed the brand's Spring '16 show in New York City two years ago. Another of Tisci's most prominent projects outside of fashion: When he gave creative input for Kanye West and Jay Z's Watch The Throne album art back in 2011.
