Rimowa Launches Essential Luggage in "Papaya" and "Mint" with K-pop Queen and Princes

It was a star-studded night in Seoul recently to celebrate the unveiling of new colours for Rimowa's Essential collection

The Rimowa Essential collection was launched in 2019 – a year before the pandemic that would change travel and the world forever – but that has not stopped it from becoming a bestseller and one of the most collectible travel cases around.

Call the German luxury luggage maker prescient (read about its history and impact here). It had introduced the line as a fun and fashionable alternative for globetrotters and adventure seekers: lightweight yet hardy polycarbonate suitcases – a world first – in an unexpected monochromatic colour complete with the brand’s signature grooves.

Got the groove?

The shades for every launch draw from destinations and unique landscapes (think the Mojave Desert, the Nordic forest or Japan during its famous cherry blossom season) and extend all the way to the handles, lock and zipper – a refreshing tone-on-tone aesthetic that would appeal to those looking to stand out amidst a sea of black bags at the airport. Imagine too how these added to the wanderlust and buoyant mood when travel resumed.

Now entering Rimowa’s world of Mint and Papaya

Rimowa

On May 2, Rimowa releases the 10th drop of the Essential line, inspired by a place that’s suitably celebratory in spirit: Miami, Florida. The ice cream-hued buildings along the coast of this buzzy seaside metropolis have led to the introduction of a cool and calming green shade dubbed Mint, while its beachside sunsets were the starting point for another new colour the label’s name Papaya – a pretty, pastel orange.

Travellers will be able to find Rimowa’s Cabin and Trunk Plus models in both shades while the medium-sized Check-In suitcase is available in Papaya and the large version in Mint. Handy packing cubes in both colours complete the look on the inside. In addition, under the Rimowa Unique programme, clients can customise their Classic aluminium suitcases with a luggage tag, wheels or handle in either shade.

Those who own Rimowa’s classic aluminium suitcases can now zhoosh them up with handles, wheels and even a luggage tag in this fun new shade of Papaya as part of the brand’s latest Essential collection. A soothing Mint option is available too.

There are also options for everyday and when you’re not plane-bound with the modern neutral Mint being the choice colour. Find it rendered onto a large backpack and duffle bag as well as the straps of the brand’s popular Personal polycarbonate crossbody.

The Rimowa Personal crossbody gets even cooler with the Mint-coloured update of its leather fastener straps and detachable canvas shoulder strap as part of the brand’s latest Rimowa Essential range.

To fete this milestone launch, Rimowa staged a glitzy one-night-only event in the hip indie district of Seongsu in Seoul, South Korea, mid-last month that included – for the first time – two of its global ambassadors at the same event: Rosé of Blackpink and race car champ Lewis Hamilton. Adding to the star factor was some of the most It boys in pop culture today: S.Coups and Wonwoo of the boyband Seventeen, EXO’s Baekhyun and Xiumin, Haruto and Junku of Treasure, actor Rowoon and – repping Southeast Asia – the Thai heartthrob Mile Pakphum.

Peep all the celebrities at the exclusive party that FEMALE got to attend – all armed with their new Rimowa Essentials – below.
