How To Give Your Home A Touch Of Rustic Charm

If the town of Annecy and films like Les Choristes are your definition of Frenchness, then Comptoir de Famille is as French as it gets. In particular, it celebrates that quaint countryside charm.

Founded in 1992 by a brother and sister team in the small town of La Tour-du-Pin in the south of France, its forte is giving everyday household items, from crockery to glassware and accessories, a rustic quality. Part vintage, part barn chic, and part hipster, everything is meant to look like they’re re-editions of old pieces you could find in a typical country kitchen in that part of the region.

Porcelain bowls and breakfast egg cups, for instance, are adorned with dainty retro prints and floral patterns, while sugar bowls come in the form of miniature milk cans. There are also school tin cans dressed in Liberty-style prints meant for biscuits, sugar et al. Then, there is the humour. Lines like “A moment for him” on tea cups and “The best recipes of my grandmother” keep things light-hearted and make you feel right at home. $10-$60
