Show Notes: Balenciaga Summer 2025
As his decade at Balenciaga approaches, Demna solidifies his reputation as a leading force in Parisian fashion.

When: September 30, 2024
The venue: In a dimly lit hall, Demna created a striking stage from polished dining tables – a charming homage to his childhood in Georgia. It was here, at his grandmother's table, that he first discovered his passion for fashion, playfully designing collections in the comfort of home.

The takeaway: Demna has a knack for making his shows deeply personal. Who could forget his Summer 2024 show featuring his mother and fashion professor? Or the Winter 2023 show in a snowstorm, a poignant tribute to refugees? So, it’s no surprise that he once again draws from his own story for Summer 2025. Demna has always used his shows as a platform to share his experiences and connect with his audience on a profound level.
Balenciaga shared this handwritten note from Demna prior to the show.
This time, the handwritten note that accompanied the collection offered a glimpse into his youthful fascination with fashion. As a young boy, Demna would sketch designs and put on impromptu fashion shows for his family. The collection, a meticulously curated wardrobe from underpinnings to stunning evening gowns with exaggerated proportions, was a celebration of his prowess as a designer and couturier.
As always, his signature elements were present: the bold slogans, streetwear influences, and subversive takes on Cristobal Balenciaga silhouettes, like cocoon-shaped sweatshirts and a coat featuring an exaggerated collar made from denim.
Romeo Beckham was one of the models in the Balenciaga Summer 2025 show.
However, this collection introduced a distinctly polished and risque vibe – sexiness has been a recurring theme at Fashion Week lately. After nine years at the helm of Balenciaga, it’s clear that it’s time to take this Georgian visionary seriously. With this collection, Demna has undoubtedly shown his most impeccable work to date.
The items we're eyeing: The trompe-l'œil lingerie bodysuits, slinky secretary skirts, '70s pleated dresses, puffer jackets with popped collars, cocoon-shaped jackets, and oversized totes with 'Priority' tags.
